No Rookie of the Year for Yankees' Miguel Andujar as Shohei Ohtani wins award
Ohtani deserved the ROY award because he led the Angels to...no, never mind. Well, then, Ohtani should have won because he was reliable day in and day...no, he had 250 less at bats than Andujar. Ohtani led his team in extra base hi...no, no, that was Andujar. Okay, well, Ohtani was the superior defensive....no, no, other than ten starts on the mound he was DH. Ohtani was a true rookie in that he....no, he played five years of pro ball in Japan. Well, Ohtani - in 250 fewer at bats, mind you - led Andujar in...strikeouts? Yep, too bad Andujar was not a free swinger...wait, what?

Andujar was robbed! Almost like he did something spectacular to earn the award but then at the last second threw it away. Just like a ground ball to third base this year. Too soon?

Yep, too bad Andujar was not a free swinger...wait, what? Matsui didn't win ROY of year because he played professionally in Japan. Sanchez didn't win ROY of the year because he didn't spend enough of time in the big leagues, although he was clearly the best rookie in the AL. None of this mattered with Ohtani, who won the award mostly because he pitched and hit, although you could make a case he hurt his team by pitching because that took his bat out of the lineup.

I think the voters just thought it was cool that he played both sides of the game. And that’s about the end of the analysis. These awards are in the end just marketing ploys.

At least if Cashman deals Andujar away he won't be panned for trading the rookie of the year... ):
I still had a sneaky suspicion that Ohtani was going to be handed this award on a silver platter...To me, he didn't play enough...but then again...what does the world care what I think?
I truly believe that Japanese (or any foreign league player) should only qualify for the Rookie of the Year in American baseball if they would have qualified for the award in their league "back home". Maybe that won't feel right to others, maybe I'll be accused of prejudice, but that's the way I see it...In fact, if I were the player that went to America to play after playing 5 years in Japan, I might myself feel a bit weird about being called a rookie and taking those votes away...

Just for poops and giggles: No wonder Clint Frazier has a concussion. They should have never forced him to cut his hair. I hardly recognize him now.

It looks like the Reds are interested in Sonny Gray.

It looks like the Reds are interested in Sonny Gray. Players on the Reds roster that could help the Yankees? Votto, Gennett, Suarez... Votto is up in years, but is still on on base machine. Gennet could allow Torres to slide over to SS. Suarez is more capable with the glove than Andujar and swings a powerful bat... So what if we take all three off their hands for Gray, Andujar, Torreyes, and Voit?... And what if we do that and Didi returns?...
