It looks like the Reds are interested in Sonny Gray. Players on the Reds roster that could help the Yankees? Votto, Gennett, Suarez... Votto is up in years, but is still on on base machine. Gennet could allow Torres to slide over to SS. Suarez is more capable with the glove than Andujar and swings a powerful bat... So what if we take all three off their hands for Gray, Andujar, Torreyes, and Voit?... And what if we do that and Didi returns?... Joey Votto might be the most underrated player of this generation. His is one of the game's most prolific hitters of this age, perhaps of all time, and hes largely flown under the radar for most folks. He is getting up there in age now and will start to hit his inevitable decline but he really has had a remarkable career. Even at his peak I bet he would skip a lot of people's minds when debating Top 5 players in the game (at the time).

Votto’s average slipped to .284 and his power dropped precipitously last season, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see both restored to his normal levels next year at 35. Players with his level of talent often make adjustments late in their careers to find a way to extend their glory...

Tell the Reds it'll take several dozen NEW baseballs in addition to the bucket of BP balls to pry Gray away.

Tell the Reds it'll take several dozen NEW baseballs in addition to the bucket of BP balls to pry Gray away. Way to go Renfield. Way to go. I told them, and now the deal is off. They dropped the offer to half a bucket of balls and a used Joey Votto jock strap...unsigned no less...

I can almost predict that wherever Gray lands, he’ll win at least 15-17 games and all of baseball will be laughing at the Yankees for giving him away for next to nothing.

Let's start the countdown - 100 days to the Yankees first spring training game!

I was really pulling for him to come around...But the fans also developed a mental block and went off the edge as soon as he started to get in trouble...

Gray had an era on the Yankees below 3 last year when pitching outside Yankee stadium. Maybe we could play him in a rotation with him pitching on road trips and someone else in Yankee stadium. He would be the number 5 pitcher anyhow.
Package him with Frazier, another play who won't be playing here but has lots of potential.

I don't know anything about Joe Harvey, but he's just been added to the Yankees 40 man roster.

For those too young to remember, back in the 1980s Ed Whitson developed such a phobia about pitching at Yankee Stadium that it came to a point where he could only be used in road games. Death threats became a regular part of his day to day life. I agree Sonny Gray could easily become a very solid starting pitcher. He has the ability. But I will never blame the Yanks for trading him, even if he wins five straight Cy Young Awards, because he never would have developed in New York.He seems like a pretty good guy actually, but definitely had issues pitching at Yankee Stadium.

He has had an elite career, maybe the most unappreciated great hitter ever, at least outside of Cincinnati. He is heading for the downside now, but should be a lock for Cooperstown when the time comes.

Neither the Yankees nor any other team has any idea if he ever will be healthy enough to play another game.
