Ah. Gaylord. His book "Me and the Spitter" is a light and entertaining read.

Wait, Perry is the other guy. I should have known that. Forgot he won the CYA in both leagues. That's right - another thing I used to know as a kid like two plus two - both the NL and the AL. No question those baseball awards from our youth are the easiest to remember.

Yeah, I have Topps cards of him on the Yankees, but no Cy Youngs. Yeah, at the end of his career. He had one pretty good season for the Yankees if memory serves. A valuable acquisition for eliminating the 5 or 6 games a year he beat the Yanks while with the Red Sox.

The 1980 Yankees had some old pitchers -- Tommy John (37), Luis Tiant (39), Jim Kaat and Gaylord Perry, both 41.

The Yankees have quite a tradition of adding great pitchers late in their career:
Catfish Tommy John Tiant Kaat Gaylord Perry Phil Niekro Joe Niekro Jimmy Key Clemens Randy Johnson
Those are just from my lifetime and I'm probably missing some.
