Yankees potential trade partner: Chicago Cubs Chicago’s North siders have quickly fallen out of contention, and find themselves as sellers, while the Yanks are in a buying mindset. Another top-notch target the Bombers could look into on the North Side would be switch hitting outfielder Ian Happ. Similar to his aforementioned teammate, Happ would have a decent price tag, as he too is playing as well as ever. His 131 wRC+ would be a career high, and he is posting career-best walk and strikeout rates, cutting the latter by a significant amount relative to career numbers. Happ also has another year of team control, not entering free agency until the conclusion of the 2023 season. With Aaron Hicks and Joey Gallo showing some inconsistency, or downright poor play, filling that void with a 27 year-old switch-hitting outfielder would be a noticeable upgrade. Whether New York is willing to pay the price it would take will be seen, but Happ is undeniably a tempting player. Mychal Givens and his high-spin fastball are putting up some somewhat pedestrian numbers, in the form of a 3.68/4.42 ERA/FIP. But he has upped his slider use this year and is seeing solid success with it, and could be an intriguing add to a bullpen with some worthwhile pitches. Chris Martin is continuing a solid run as a decent bullpen arm, with a 3.26 FIP this year. And David Robertson is having a bit of a renaissance, posting a 1.86 ERA thus far and a strikeout rate reminiscent of his better days. Regardless, who doesn’t love a good reunion? www.pinstripealley.com/2022/7/1/23190003/yankees-trade-rumors-chicago-cubs-mlb-deadline-contreras-happ-pitching-robertson-martin-givens

It was cool to see him come back. In the long run, we knew he’d have to go. Better for him than riding the shuttle at his age…

Not much of a trade, but it's a start.

I love this time of year, let the rumors fly! I could see guys like Florial, Medina, Cabrera, even Peraza on the move if the Yanks do something.

2022 Top 50 Trade Candidates
...19. Miguel Andujar, INF/OF, Yankees:
Andujar, the American League Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2018, missed nearly all of 2019 due to shoulder surgery and has been an afterthought in the Yankees organization since. He keeps hitting in Triple-A — .316/.362/.485 in 185 PAs this year — and the Yankees keep finding reasons to keep him in Scranton. Andujar has diversified his defensive skill set, spending time in left field and at first base, but it doesn’t seem like he’ll get a real chance with the Yankees anytime soon. He reportedly asked for a trade following a recent demotion.
...39. Joey Gallo, OF, Yankees:
One of the Yankees’ big ticket acquisitions last summer, Gallo’s 12 months in the Bronx has been a disappointment. He has a .162/.294/.369 line in 462 plate appearances since the trade, striking out in just under 40% of his trips. He’s a quality defensive corner outfielder and baserunner, and his huge power potential allows him to carry a lineup when he’s on. All that said, there’s no sugarcoating how lost he’s looked at the plate for virtually the entirety of his time in pinstripes.
The Yankees would certainly be selling low were they to move Gallo at the deadline. They won’t fetch a strong prospect return, and moving him for little more than salary relief would smart after they sent five prospects to land him last summer. He’s not performed anywhere near the level the club had envisioned, though, and they’ve already begun to explore the market for possible outfield upgrades. It may just be time for a change of scenery.
...OTHERS OF NOTE:
Yankees: Aaron Hicks, Aroldis Chapman

Hugs those position playing prospects, yet doesn't give them a chance in the big leagues.

The Yankees and Royals have recently held talks around a trade that would send outfielder Andrew Benintendi to the Bronx, according to a report from Jon Heyman and Dan Martin of the New York Post. They add that the Yanks are simultaneously trying to work out a separate trade that would send outfielder Joey Gallo out of town.
