Scouting report on Yankee trade target Montas from Reddit:
After yesterdays great hitting effort, the yanks will face a tough righty today: Frankie Montas. You might have heard of him in connection to the yanks. There is at least 1 rumor per week that he might be traded to the bronx. But would that be worth it? Lets look at him and find out more tonight, here are some little nuggets i found out beforehand: He has a 3.21 ERA so far this Season. Same as Blackburn yesterday, Montas uses a lot of different pitches. He uses a different approach to lefties and righties. So lets start with his approach to righties. He will throw a 4sm Fastball to righties 32% of the time. This usage of the 4sm Fastball gets higher the more he gets ahead in the count. At 2 Strikes he uses it almost 50 % of the time. He also throws a slider. The usage of that goes up, when he gets behind in the count. And now if u paid attention the last days, that is odd. Because usually the slider is used to get outs on 2 strike counts and the fastball is the comfort pitch when behind. Against Righties, that just isnt the case for Montas. Other than those two pitches, Montas uses a Cutter, Splitter and Sinker. These are pretty evenly devided.
Against lefties, as mentioned, his approach changes drasticly. The most used pitch is a Splitter against them. And it pretty much takes the place of the 4sm Fastball, as it is also his go to pitch in 2 strike counts against lefties. Interisting with his splitter is the fact that it was really great last year, but has almost been league average this year. One pitch he doesnt use much against lefties is his slider, which is reasonable as a righty. His comfort pitch when behind is the sinker against lefties, which makes also sense, since the Sinker from a righty Pitcher will break away from the batter. All that leads to, is that Montas has almost even Splits in allowed OPS and such stats against lefties and righties, with the ever so slight edge to lefties. So his change of approach does seem to work.
That tone goes through his whole Stat page. Even Splits amongst almost everything. Which leads me to think he might be pretty decent. One thing of note might also be that the metrics suggest that he is right there in the “luck” department. Meaning that his expected Stats match his actual stats pretty decently. So compare that to yesterday, where Blackburn was a whole run ahead in ERA to xERA (2.97 - 3.97), while Montas sits at 3.21 ERA compared to his xERA of 3.22.
The only real difference in his splits is actually his stats in high leverage Situations. These are way worse than those that are qualified as medium and low leverage by baseball reference. High Leverage: .789 OPS, Medium Leverage: .593 OPS, Low Leverage: .547 OPS
How are his last starts looking? Well his last start was great, 8.0 IP with no runs allowed, and he had a no hitter going into the 8th inning. Before that he had 2 mid outings with 3 and 5 runs allowed. But those two seem to be the outliers, as he had a streak of 5 games with 2 or less earned runs allowed (1 of those games had 4 runs allowed, but only 1 was earned).
Looks like another tough starter tonight. So lets get him out early and get to the questionable Bullpen.

Someone will pick up Banuelos. Did the Yankees keep Abreu? For now. That might change when Chapman is ready.

Just go back from Home Depot and bought some of that ant bait you shared with me yesterday. The little bastards were plentiful again this morning when I woke up, so I killed them all and vacuumed their dead exoskeletons before I left for work. When I came home, they were back again, so I took Greta outside, then went to Home Depot. I have to be patient according to the directions, which states that the ants will come out in force, and then take back to poison to the next and queen. I wish I could hire Army Ants to lodge an incursion and wipe out the instigators.

That’s how the professional pest killers present their product, any way… The nest must be poisoned to stop the parade. ..

I guess i can take time off from packing and furniture moving for long enough to watch this game. The carpet layers called and notified that their truck broke down. They expect to be here now on Monday, July 4th. We had no plans, so that should work out fine. It just delays the final goal… I don’t like delays in an unstable economy… But what can I do? Just be patient…
