who did Monty pi$$ off? Tall, LH starter with a shown ability to pitch in a really tough division gone for a CF that is attributed to be a "defensive star". Our CF defense was not a problem. How does this make the Yankees better? Is Bader potentially better than we think? Welcome to our skeptics club Billy.

Gilbert looks like he should be pitching against Taiwan in the LL World Series… what is he, 11 years old? … He could have been Beaver Cleaver’s pal on the show… And another
WRONG THREAD ALERT! WRONG THREAD ALERT!
Thanks for squealing, rizz.

Still trying to make sense of this deal.
“I didn’t acquire Montas so I could move Monty,” Cashman said after the deadline had passed. “Me and my staff entered the trade acquisition market of exports and imports trying to figure out the overall ecosystem of that roster and what fits best with a plan for October and how could we best be flying high at the best of our abilities when it counts the most in October and what gives us the most amount of quality choices? That’s what went into every single decision we made.
“So we’re excited about what Bader can bring down the line for us. We have to wait on it, we get that. But it came at the expense of a quality choice we already had.”
What? I don't get it. I haven't seen a trade so baffling in a long time.

Makes no sense to us fans as well. Montgomery was a great pitcher who got no run support. We traded that for a .256 batting CF? If this comes back to bite us (and it probably does) we all can say we saw it coming. My solace - This is just a game.

Kaybli I just don't like understand the reasoning here? You can complain about Hicks all you want but enough where trading a consistent starter for someone with a bum foot that might improve outfield defense? I didn't realize see outfield defense too much of a problem here?

That’s an actual quote and not satire? With material like that, Cashman should consider a career in elective politics. Have to give credit though, it's probably the first time a baseball GM used the terms imports, exports and ecosystem in a press conference. That sound you heard was Stick Michael turning in his grave.

Is Cashman trying to get fired? Did Montgomery piss off Boone somehow? Did they have a deal for another starting pitcher that fell through at the last minute? I'm at a loss.
I wish Cashman's phone died at 5:30 pm. It would have been a great trade deadline then. Instead we're all left wondering what the hell happened.

"But it came at the expense of a quality choice we already had." So why'd you do it then dingus? From everywhere I've seen Yankees internet is up in arms about this trade.

Definitely cringe-inducing sentence, which began with “me.” It also looks like Miguel Andujar will be a future DFA after the season, just like Frazier et al last year.
