Another shutout for Montgomery. 6 innings of shutout ball. I would take 1-0 wins at this point. There might not be a post season, will come down to wire, in large part due to this trade. It was a bad trade but the Yankees problems are their offense. They can't score and I don't think Montgomery was much of a hitter.

If we have problems scoring, then why trade our lowest ERA pitcher for a hurt .240 hitter? They F‘d up and most of us see it. It happens. But it‘s just a game. Stranger things have happened but the way we are playing, the bad trades, etc. moral is low. Most likely this ends badly but it is just a game. Hope it doesn‘t cost us Judge though.

Great, albeit painful video to watch. So, the Yankees told Montgomery his fastball wasn't that good and to rely on his other 2 pitches when he had two strikes. Just wondering, before trading a guy with a great ERA, don't you experiment a bit? It has been 6 games or so now and he's had 1 bad start and the rest pretty great. Happy for the guy. Always sad to see a good guy and productive Homegrown talent traded away.

All those times being pulled after 4 and 2/3rds innings from giving up a single, only to have the win go to a reliever that pitched an inning sends a message. Others doubting you and others believing in you is often the difference in perseverance and eventual success. Not everyone is single-minded and inured to failure, believing in a destiny despite negative results. Managing is about people and getting them to reach their maximum potential. How can one achieve that when you MUST be perfect every fifth inning with the hook dangling above your head like the sword of Damocles.

Boone’s handling of Montgomery was one of the oddest managerial habits I’ve ever seen. I wonder if Monty didn’t start giving up those two out fifth-inning singles as part of a Pavlovian response to previous outings…
