I think the sting that hurts the most is Montgomery is probably the most successful homegrown draft pick since Andy Pettitte for the Yanks. I was looking forward to Monty being a guy who climbed the Yankees pitching records over the next 5-7 years.

Cashman can put all the lipstick he wants on this deal but it still looks bad to me. Montgomery was not an ace by any means but he was a good 4-5 starter(or better right now with Severino injured). We gave him up for someone, when healthy, will probably be a spot starter and a late inning defensive replacement. What about Florial and Andujar? I could go on and on but I just don't get it.

So Cash traded a 4-5 starter for a part-time player?

That’s an actual quote and not satire? With material like that, Cashman should consider a career in elective politics. Have to give credit though, it's probably the first time a baseball GM used the terms imports, exports and ecosystem in a press conference. That sound you heard was Stick Michael turning in his grave. Definitely cringe-inducing sentence, which began with “me.” It also looks like Miguel Andujar will be a future DFA after the season, just like Frazier et al last year. There has to be teams that want Andujar he actually is hitting in AAA unlike Frazier who was becoming a headcase and not consistent. Why Cashman didn't trade him I have no idea. Florial seems to never get chances either. Reminds me of Chan Ho Park last year was hitting a high average in AAA but they kept bringing up other guys when injuries happened instead and didn't try to ride the hot hand. Then they gave him one entire ab and sent him to Pittsburgh soon after. Not saying Park would have been some long term solution but this organization doesn't seem to ever want to ride the hot hand on anything and continue to give the lesser or colder players 1000 chances. Like I said Park was never a long term solution but they kept bringing up all these other guys that were barely hitting instead of trying to ride the hot hand during the games half the team was out with Covid. Florial and Andujar suffer from the same thing the Yankees ignore them when they are producing then when they are cold they bring them up and then they get sent back down shortly after. Think of the opportunities someone like Ford and Tauchman received rather than Florial. I would hate to be in the Yankee farm system, just to be passed over from the acquiring of Jonathan Davis.

It is a bit worrisome, Yanks do not do a great job of integrating young players onto the roster in every day lineup. It obviously feels like Volpe is a sure thing to be up in 2023-24 at some point, but at the moment there are guys like Peraza, Florial, Cabrera and Andujar in AAA that don't really belong there. Either trade them (prbly shoulda for Pablo Lopez type SP yesterday) or give them opportunities over the next year to impact the team, bc the worst thing that can happen is they stay in AAA long enough that they eventually lose their value. Yanks have done a nice job building their farm back up, they even have used a lot of their pitching in deals over last 12-24 months, but they are not to be trusted w/ position player development yet.

Watching that makes me more ticked off at Cashman. I hope Monty pitches seven shutout innings against the Yankees but then we win against the bullpen. I guess that would make him feel like he was still with the Yankees.

Jordan Montgomery’s fiancée shows off Yankee Stadium engagement pics before trade
Talk about timing. The fiancée of MLB pitcher Jordan Montgomery showed off the couple’s Yankee Stadium engagement shoot Friday on Instagram — days before the Bombers dealt him to the Cardinals ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
