This team is in meltdown mode. I am beginning to think there was a incident that caused dissension in the club house somewhere along the way. Its all of them not just a couple of guys. My dearly departed Yankee buddy Joe and I had one specific disagreement: the existence of momentum. Joe did not believe there was such a thing, only execution. I believed that confidence played a large part in performance and that the presence or absence of that feeling could rub off on teammates, both positively and negatively. I don't think its just confidence as these guys are pros and the slide is so dramatic. I think there is no leader and just a bunch of dudes. No one to take the initiative. Boone had to call the team meeting during the slide before the ASG.

Great song. Summer of 1966. Bobby Hebb was a tremendous live performer. I remember him bringing the house down on "The Tonight Show" in front of a very impressed Johnny Carson. I had an Uncle Sonny, so when I was a tad I thought that the song was about someone named Sonny or someone's son.

I believe in momentum but I think it's more prelevant in football because of the shorter schedule. In baseball you can have a bad 30 game stretch and still win the World Series in football you can maybe be bad 3-4 games early but do that late and you are likely doomed since some seasons 11-5 would miss the playoffs that's not much room for error. So I feel like for the Yankees the law of averages over a season will prob be enough to keep the East title. Most of their "bad play" was .500 baseball this 2-11 crap was only recently. Hope we're not calling him Sonny Montas by the end of the year. Thanks for posting this, one of the truly great and yet mostly forgotten songs of my youth. It got a lot of air play back then. I still catch myself singing the hook from time to time, but I hadn’t heard the song all the way through to completion in a long time…

I can remember just about every day of that summer. Girls are great memory aids.

Okay comrades, I'll have to hear about Donaldson's game-winning blast later. Ciao for now.

Let's see where things take us but as of now, I think like a lot of fans, I sort of lost a bit of faith in the front office for trading Montgomery. Even if it was a more fair deal and healthy player, there is something to be said for keeping home growns. And it seems like they just don't care, want to win badly and make bad decisions, are afraid to make the big trade for more proven players, rarely call up players, etc.
I'm not rooting for us to lose, but for some reason the Montgomery trade really irked me the wrong way. I sort of don't care anymore but then again, it is just a game.
The good news is that if we stink this year, Boone is gone. :-)

Hah, I never said they were all good memories! Although mostly they are. I was the one guy who bought the whole Napoleon XIV album. Other ballads on there included "Split Level Head," "The Place Where The Nuts Chase The Squirrels" and "Photogenic Schizophrenic You." Great mood music. This one girl Judy fit well with that album. I learned valuable life lessons and moved on.

I haven't figured out how to work "They're Coming to Take Me Away" into my Halloween set list so maybe there's something else there.
