I thought Volpe was supposed to be suspect defensively at short. I sure haven't seen any evidence of it. Just his arm strength, which he worked on in the minors to improve. He's got the quickness, hands, and vision. Peraza has a gun at shortstop and has plenty arm to play third base. |

I don’t think I could handle a religion that told me when to eat. (You can read that in Paul O’Neill’s voice, with that little touch of sarcasm he throws at Michael Kay.)… Spaghetti sandwiches are frowned upon by all major religions and are actually illegal in 181 countries. It’s po’ folks food. A decent smear of margarine on each slice of bread. Enough sauce to give some flavor to the spaghetti. Enough spaghetti to match the sauce. All cold… It’s sort of like my beans sandwiches. A smear of butter or margarine on each slice of bread. As many Campbells* Pork and Beans as you can imagine staying on the bread while you eat the sammy (they won’t, but you try). * Due to the scarcity of Campbells Pork and Beans in this area, I’ve learned to accept the more commonly available Van Camps (or is it Van Kamps? I think it’s with a K.)… When we were kids sometimes these are what we had, but I never minded either one. Smelts. That was the one I didn’t care for… Bones stayed in. They were soft after cooking, but still disgusting… |

Uncharacteristic chase swing on the high fastball by Judge to K as Volpe steals third. Judge was unhappy about it, too. Usually see no reaction from him in the dugout. He was visibly perturbed. I was wondering if the steal distracted him. I also think he was worked up because it was ball 4. I figure it this way, if the steal wax a problem, he knows Volpe is a rook, and he (Judge) is the Cap. They’ll talk about it… |

Among the many idiotic things my friends and I did in college was to try to make smelts a thing, pretending we loved them and insisting that they come from Digby Bay. Frying up huge batches of them and having people over to join us. We couldn't really persuade anyone that they were any good. |
