Former Indians and Yankees HOF Infielder Joe Sewell would only strike out 114 times in his 14 season MLB playing career. In 1920, the Indians had bought him up from the minors to replace Tribe 2B Ray Chapman, who was fatally hit in the head by a pitch from Yankees starter Carl Mays.

In 1961 when Whitey Ford won the Cy Young Award with a 25-4 record he posted the second highest ERA of his career at 3.21, 10th in the AL.
The highest was 3.24 when he went 16-13 in 1965…

In 1961 when Whitey Ford won the Cy Young Award with a 25-4 record he posted the second highest ERA of his career at 3.21, 10th in the AL. The highest was 3.24 when he went 16-13 in 1965… Yeah, that 1961 team probably provided decent run support.  |

In 2023 there were 534 times by 281 pitchers when the starter pitched 3 innings or less. This was a mixture of pitchers pulled because they failed to perform and openers. The teams went a combined 172-362…
