Inger I am sure you know that Ogden Nash made Baltimore his home and was a big Colts and Orioles fan. He was a genuinely funny guy who occasionally made the rounds of talk shows. I is for Inger For when he was young Could catch anything In his sombrero or glove inger😂

EDDIE COLLINS
Yet one more amazing star that didn’t make the HOF in his first ballot appearance…
With a career BA of .333 it’s hard to believe he never won a batting title. Even in his seasons of .360, .365, and .372.
Three times, 1909, 1914 & 1915, the only AL batter he trailed was Ty Cobb. He finished in the Top Ten in the AL 15 X in the 18 seasons when had played at least 100 games & in the Top Five 11 times.
He was offered the NYY manager’s job following the death of Miller Huggins at the end of the 1929 season but elected to stay in Philadelphia with Connie Mack’s A's. He coached there 1929-32.
Collins’ son, Eddie Collins Jr. also played three seasons for PHA. Prior to his MLB career, Collins led Yale to the Ivy League championship.
Eddie Collins Sr. And Jr. Hold the father/son record for most sacrifice bunts with 513.
Sr. 512 (mlb record by a lot) Jr. 1…🤓

About the Andre Dawson Classic Feb. 23-25, 2024: Jackie Robinson Training Complex, Vero Beach, Fla.
The Andre Dawson Classic is the annual, round-robin collegiate baseball tournament designed by Major League Baseball to highlight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their baseball programs.
Recognized by the Higher Education Act of 1965, HBCUs have offered quality educational and athletic programs for African American youth for more than a century. HBCUs have a proud baseball tradition, and have produced Hall of Famers such as Lou Brock (Southern University) and Andre Dawson (Florida A&M University).
This event (originally known as the Urban Invitational) was first launched in 2008 at the MLB Youth Academy in Compton, Calif., and was hosted there until 2012 when the tournament relocated to Houston. The Houston Astros hosted the event at Minute Maid Park in 2012 and 2013. In 2014 and 2015 the tournament relocated to New Orleans, and those two years included participation by NCAA Division I programs LSU and the University of New Orleans. This year's tournament will take place at the historic Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Fla.
The 2024 tournament will feature six HBCUs: Alabama State University (Montgomery, Ala.), Florida A&M University (Tallahassee, Fla.), Grambling State University (Grambling, La.), North Carolina A&T (Greensboro, N.C.), Prairie View A&M (Prairie View, Texas) and Southern University (Baton Rouge, La.).
Each year, the tournament features dozens of Nike RBI and MLB Youth Academy alumni on the HBCU rosters…

Ken Templeton is the brother of Garry Templeton; both were switch-hitters. He is also the uncle of Garry Templeton, Jr. A 23rd-round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics in the 1972 amateur draft, Ken hit .190/~.244/.345 with 37 strikeouts in 84 AB. He fielded only .875 in 28 outfield games for the Coos Bend-North Bay A's. In 1973, he was with the Lewiston Broncs and Tri-City Triplets, now as a pitcher. He went 0-3 with a 3.72 ERA. In 29 innings, he allowed 20 hits and struck out 25 but walked 38 and threw 13 wild pitches. Despite his limited number of games, he was 5th in the Northwest League in wild pitches…

All players who attended USC and made it to MLB… Like many SoCal universities & CCs, USC has long been a powerhouse, especially under Rod Dedeaux, cranking out many NCAA Championships and MLB players. Ex-Yankee Andy Stankiewicz is now the head coach at USC, after taking Grand Canyon University (Phoenix) from D-II to a very competitive D-I program.
