Can't personally vouch for its truthfulness, but I was told by someone who worked for the Dodgers who heard it from someone else that when Bobby Bonds was brought in for a tryout they told him they wanted to clock his speed from home plate to 2B. He stood at the plate, and when given the "GO" he promptly ran over the pitcher's mound and slid into 2B. Heard from a friend who Heard it from a friend who Heard it from another You been messin’ around… REO Speedwagon...one of my least favorite bands.

The Negro Leagues start to play at Yankee Stadium
July 5, 1930-The New York Lincoln Giants and the Baltimore Black Sox would split a doubleheader played before 20,000 fans at Yankee Stadium. It is the 1st time that the Negro League teams would play there. Baltimore's Rap Dixon has 3 HRs and the Giants' Chino Smith has 2 HRs and a triple.

I don’t know when the White Sox got their first IBB this season (they now have 3, two by Roberts). I do know that they had none after their 57th game. That was the record since 1955 when they started officially recording them…

Okay, I found it. The While Sox got their first IBB on June 8, 2024 after starter ng the season with 65 game without one.
They broke the record of 55 set by the Senators in 1930…
The Yankees longest streak was 36, in 2016…that’s the only time they’ve been in the top 78…they were 79th in 2023 with 17…

At only 29 years old, Coors Field is now the third oldest park on the NL… Yep...I was there for the 1st game, which went into extra innings & ended with a Dante Bichette walk-off HR after the Mets had taken a 1 run lead in the top of 14th..

The All-Star Game was first played in 1933, but there was precedent of sorts. In 1911, following the untimely death of Cleveland’s Addie Joss just before the season began, AL players decided to put on an exhibition game to benefit his widow and children. This all-star team met the Naps (better known as the Indians) in Cleveland on July 24. The team featured Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Ty Cobb, Home Run Baker, Sam Crawford, Hal Chase, Gabby Street, Smoky Joe Wood, Walter Johnson, and others. The All-Stars won, 5–3, and the game raised over $12,000 for the Joss family...

On 07-May-2017, the visiting Yankees outlasted the Cubs, 5–4, in 18 innings. The Yankees struck out 22 times. The Cubs struck out 26 times, which tied the major league record for most batter’s whiffs in a game of any length. The total 48 strikeouts set a new record (by a lot) for most total strikeouts in a game of any length...

I go insane for Johnny Sain:
Johnny Sain was the last pitcher to face Babe Ruth and the first to face Jackie Robinson.
In 1946, Sain batted 104 times without walking or striking out. He hit .298 and drove in 17 runs that season.
Sain had 856 plate appearances in his career. He never played any other position in the field but pitcher. He walked 24 times and struck out 20 in those 856 PAs.
As a pinch-hitter in 19 plate appearances, he hit .412 with a .474 on-base percentage.
Sain is considered to have been one of the better pitching coaches, if not the best pitching coach, in MLB history. He was the pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers when they fielded MLB’s last 30-game winner, Denny McLain...

Two players hold the record for getting the one hit for their team in what would have been no-hitters. Cesar Tovar, who played from 1965 to 1976, and Eddie Milner, who played from 1980 to 1988, both spoiled opposing no-hit bids five times…
