BRETT GARDNER Gardner played for NYY 2009-2021, a GG in 2106, an AS in 2015 & a WS in 2009. Looking back, it just seems as though he should have won more gold gloves. I don’t know what Alex Gordon did that Gardner couldn’t do. It’s hard to imagine him being much better. Just one All Star Game and of course only one WS title. Walked on & made the team at the College of Charleston in 2001, then started for them for three years. Gardner’s 73 career triples are more than anyone playing today… Gardner would have caught that ball to left center that Verdugo couldn't get to last night. I don't think so, he's almost 41 years old.

I don't think so, he's almost 41 years old. If he's still in shape, he still might have caught it. During one of the All Star games I watched awhile back Ted Williams was being honored. At one point Bob Costas was interviewing him and asked him what his approach to hitting Randy Johnson would be. I don't recall his exact reply but he gave a somewhat detailed reply finishing it with I would hit his fastball back through the middle. Costas was a little surprised and said Ted you wouldn't pull him? Ted answered Bob, I'm in my seventies.

Gardner would have caught that ball to left center that Verdugo couldn't get to last night. It wasn't an easy catch, but I remeber thinking at the time that earlier in the season when Verdugo was playing well he would have made it. Earlier this year it seemed everything stuck to Verdugo’s glove. Since he quit hitting it seems nothing does…

July 28,1890-New York Giants pitcher Mickey Welch beats the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-2, to become baseball's 3rd 300-game winner. The 31-year-old Brooklyn native will win only 7 more games before ending his 13-year career next season.

He was a two-time WS champion, 2 time All-Star, and four time gold glove winner in his twelve year career. Victorino won a WS w/PHI in 2008 & w/BOS in 2013; Was an All-Star in 2009 (starter) & 2011; And won Gold Glove awards in 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2013. He played for LAD in 2012 & for LAA
Shane scored more runs, had more triples , stolen bases, based on balls, a higher batting average and higher WAR than anyone else ever born in his birth state of Hawaii.

DENARD SPAN
He’s the first National’s player to lead the league in hits. Span’s 184 H in 2014 for WSN led the NL, in a tie with PHI’s Ben Revere. WSN’s Trea Turner later led the league (& MLB) in the shortened 2020 season w/78.
Span had 11 3B for WSN in 2013, the most in either league. His 10 3B in 2009 helped MINcapture the AL Central, tied w/BOS’s Jacoby Ellsbury for the AL lead.
Span’s new position as a member of the Bally Sports North broadcast crew was announced in February 2024.
With 72 career triples in this century, he had more than any active player…

Me too. He’s deserving… he was about more than his raw offensive numbers, much as another first baseman, Steve Garvey was about less than his raw offensive numbers. (Hope Garvey never gets in.)…

And the 1899 Brooklyn Superbas had two HOFers in our beloved Wee Willie Keeler and Hughie "Ee-Yah" Jennings. The Brooklyn Robins had their HOF namesake Wilbert Robinson as manager. Although you did say player, and I don't think he was playing by then. Don't forget Randy Johnson was with the D-Backs. And Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter played for the Kansas City Athletics in their last season in KC, 1967. Not sure how the Cleveland Spiders stack up.

Brooklyn Superbas/Brooklyn Robins = Brooklyn Dodgers I should have stated further qualifications, which would eliminate those teams because they are the same franchise as the current LA Dodgers, which does add a certain ambiguity. Since I had not stated that qualification, the Judges WILL accept your answer will award you the designated prize of nothing for your additions to the list… 🤓 Note: There are two ambiguities to this question. First teams change names and move cities within the same franchise, and teams from different franchises sometimes use the same names. So I’m answer according to team city and name. There are two ambiguities to this question. First teams change names and move cities within the same franchise, and teams from different franchises sometimes use the same names. So I’ll state according to team city and name. Second, most Hall of Fame players have played for multiple teams. I’ll state these according to the team for which the player played the most games… Note: This is a very sharp group of individuals on the site, therefore you can’t be too careful when making any statements t that contains any degree of ambiguity…Which makes it a great community to post information on, and led me to eliminate trivia questions and provide only answers several years ago!…

Please see my reply to another poster for reference. I also thought of the Cleveland NAPS, named for Napoleon LaJoie… Tis a tangled web we weave, though I did not intend to deceive… What a wicked game you play To make me feel this way… 🤓
