Same. Inger is afraid any red in his meat is blood despite numerous attempts to inform him its just the protein myoglobin. I have a distaste for Myoglobin… and I want the germs cooked out of my food. I know it’s not “blood” but it looks disgusting and I don’t like the taste when not cooked out of it… Like bacon...who doesn't like crispy myoglobin, especially when sauteed with garlic? Deeeelish!!!

ICHIRO SUZUKI
He had quite a season in 2001
2001 AL MVP; 2001 ROY. The 1st player to receive both honors in the same year was Boston’s Fred Lynn in 1975. There are no others besides these 2 to be so honored.
AS,(1st of 10 straight); GG (1st of 10 straight): SS (1st of 2) in 2001
In 2001 his 15+ game hitting streaks were: 04-20—Apr (15G); 22-Apr—18-May (23G) & 03-24—Aug (21G) making him the first batter since Cecil Cooper in 1980 to have at least 3 hitting streaks of at least 15 games in a single season.
Suzuki had 96 triples. No active player has that many…

JIMMY ROLLINS
Rollins is the only switch hitter from the Phillies to win the NL MVP award, and was NL MVP in 2007.
Also having his franchise’s longest consecutive game streak, Rollins’ streak was 38 G: 36 to end 2005 & 2 more to begin 2006.
He leads all Phillies players in hits and doubles. In his 15 seasons w/ PHI, he racked up 2,306 H & 479 2B, but is 2nd only to Mike Schmidt in G, TB & XBH & trails only old timer “Sliding” Billy Hamilton in career SB
Rollins amassed 114 career triples, far more than any active player…

July 21,1952-At Yankee Stadium, the 1952 Mayor’s Trophy game is played. A crowd of 48,263 fans watched the Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 5-3. The Yankees young Slugger Mickey Mantle hit a 2-run HR in the 8th inning to snap a 3-3 tie and the game was called after that inning because the Yankees had to catch a train west! The winning pitcher for the Yankees was veteran Reliever Joe "Professor" Ostrowski, while Dodgers Pitcher Clyde King took the loss.

Curtis Granderson
More often referenced is the fact that Granderson is in the foursome of players with 20‑20‑20‑20 in those categories, his equals being Frank Schulte in 1911, Willie Mays in 1957 & Jimmy Rollins the same year as Granderson, 2007. However, only Granderson reached 23 in all 4 categories: 23 HR, 38 2B, 23 3B & 26 SB.
The last time the pariah known as Alex Rodriquez made the All-Star team it was Granderson that lead the Yankees in HR. He homered 41 X for NYY in 2011.
Awards detailed here: Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award. Roberto Clemente Award. Granderson was noted as one of baseball’s “nice guys”…
Granderson finished his career with 95 triples, far distancing himself from any active player…

BRETT GARDNER
Gardner played for NYY 2009-2021, a GG in 2106, an AS in 2015 & a WS in 2009. Looking back, it just seems as though he should have won more gold gloves. I don’t know what Alex Gordon did that Gardner couldn’t do. It’s hard to imagine him being much better. Just one All Star Game and of course only one WS title.
Walked on & made the team at the College of Charleston in 2001, then started for them for three years.
Gardner’s 73 career triples are more than anyone playing today…

I recall Brooks saying that Nettles should have won some of the GGs he received later in his career. Some argue Derek didn't really deserve them. Probably one of the more subjective awards given. WTS, I thought Gordon was really good.

CARL CRAWFORD
On 24-May-2006, Crawford tormented the Blue Jays in Toronto with 5 H, 5 R & 4 SB. He’s the only expansion team player to ever post such a game.
Later that same season he had back to back games with 3 steals vs. the Jays. Had 3 SB on 16-Aug- & again on 17-Aug-2006both vs. TOR in Tampa.
On 05-Jul-2006 Crawford lined the ball back to the BOS pitcher Matt Clement in the 3rdinning, knocking him over.
Despite a quick career fade in his late twenties, Crawford totaled 123 triples in his career. No one playing actively comes close to that number…

JOSE REYES
Reyes stole 78 bases in 2007 which matched the 78 of Marquis Grissom in 1992. Perhaps someone will challenge that number this year, but it’s the standard since ‘92.
Reyes was voted to start for the NL AS team in 2006. His place was taken by David Eckstein, WS MVP that fall.
Reyes, blessed with tremendous speed, was called Molasses, “La Melaza”.
Reyes means Kings in Spanish.
Jose’s 131 career triples are the most of anyone this century…

It wasn't an easy catch, but I remeber thinking at the time that earlier in the season when Verdugo was playing well he would have made it.

Speed alone doesn’t catch baseballs. Lou Brock and Lonnie Smith were bad outfielders despite tremendous speed…The only thing missing from Gardner’s defensive game was a plus arm. He made up for some of that with quick return throws that were accurate…
