On August 7, 1984, Joe Hesketh was called-up by the Montreal Expos and before he ever threw a single Major League pitch, umpires called a balk on him…

One of the few umps I actually liked: "I never called a balk in my life. I didn't understand the rule." - Luciano, Ron. Major League Baseball Umpire. Unlike a former neighbor..."Balkin' Bob Davidson", who also possibly didn't understand the rule.

JUAN PIERRE On 09-May-2006, cheating Barry Bonds led off the 4th inning with a long drive to CF that looked like it might clear the ivy in Wrigley. Pierre went above and beyond the call of duty, literally to catch the ball to help hold cheating Bonds to a single hit that day. The homer would have tied the cheating Bonds with Babe Ruth. According to Pierre’s account of the play, (cheating) Bonds was originally mad the homer was robbed, but eventually signed it for Pierre. Pierre said the play wasn’t that hard because he was playing him on the warning track. He said he simply took a few steps back and timed his leap. Pierre stole 3rd base of the Marlins’ A.J. Burnett/Charles Johnson on 18-May-2001. He was always a threat to attempt to steal.in this case he registered the Rockies one-thousandth stolen base. His name is both bilingual and multicultural. Juan (‘John’ in Spanish) & Pierre (‘Peter’ in French). His father was French Creole, but was a serious fan of Juan Marichal. Pierre’s total of 94 triples easily exceeds that of any active player… Pierre was born in Mobile, Alabama, but he grew up and attended high school in Alexandria, Louisiana. I always loved the way he played, hustling all out and causing havoc on the bases. He would be easily penciled in for this current Yankee lineup with his .343 career OBP as our leadoff man and 600+ stolen bases and .295 BA. Cashman would trade for a guy like Pierre and have him hit 5th.

July 31,1963-New York Yankees Starter Ralph Terry uses just 75 pitches in a 5-hitter, winning by a score of 3-2 over the Kansas City A's. Terry has no walks and 5 strikeouts against the A’s starting lineup.

If Marsh was an actor would he play a Hatfield or a McCoy? Both- he’s bihillbilly. Reminds me of Johnny Damon in his Captain Caveman days. There. I just turned this into a trivia post…

If Marsh was an actor would he play a Hatfield or a McCoy? I always thought his hair was dirty/greasy. Nope...it's just water, which I understand he applies multiple times during the game.

It’s very difficult to have both 200 hits and 100 walks in the same season. How difficult? Lou Gehrig did it five times. Wade Boggs did it 3 times. No one else did it more than twice.
Five times. Are you kidding me? Gehrig was a on another planet. He made Ruth greater…

Between the final day of Gehrig's streak on April 30, 1939, and that 1995 day when his record was broken by Ripken, Gehrig’s Yankees played 8,898 games. That means that, as long as Gehrig's streak lasted -- and remember, it spanned 15 years -- he could have done the whole thing four more times over in the time that his record stood...

Gehrig started 2,124 of the games during his streak at first base, the most of any player at the position in that span, of course. The next-most starts at first in that span were 1,540 by Jim Bottomley. But Gehrig started 2,127 of the games in total -- so the three other games? Those were started in left field, right field and at shortstop, once each...
