Gehrig started 2,124 of the games during his streak at first base, the most of any player at the position in that span, of course. The next-most starts at first in that span were 1,540 by Jim Bottomley. But Gehrig started 2,127 of the games in total -- so the three other games? Those were started in left field, right field and at shortstop, once each... The shortstop game was at bat to keep his consecutive playing streak alive, he never took the field that game.

July 20, 1975….Texas Rangers skipper….Billy Martin….ordered the public address announcer to play John Denver’s… “Thank God, I’m A Country Boy”…
during 7th inning stretch instead of…..“Take Me Out To The Ballgame”….
Brad Corbett…..commercial plumbing contractor….and…..Texas Rangers owner….. fired Billy.
Billy told a reporter,
…..”Corbett knows as much about baseball as I do about plastic pipe.”…..
Billy won everywhere.
Billy also got fired everywhere...

Billy won everywhere. Billy also got fired everywhere...
In my opinion, he should be in the Hall of Fame. Good manager, but sometimes the off the field stuff got him fired. I'm not a fan of Jackson's but I didn't approve of Billy taking him out of the game in the middle of an inning. I'm also not a fan of the way George treated Billy, because in my opinion, the back and forth with hiring and firing Billy was ridiculous and made the Yankees a laughing stock.

Billy in the HOF? He certainly could handle the aspects of winning on a short term basis. Over and over again. Despite the aspersions that some cast upon him: Ruined pitching staffs, fought with his players, crude, drunk, etc… yes. He won. Just amazing. Even help the team as a player far beyond his statistical value. Billy Martin was a winner at baseball, a loser at life, Al because of bottles…

To finalize, like Mantle, though to a lesser extent I admired and loved them. Yet I consider that love to be unrequited. Mantle was so great that I forgive that that and see that he easily belongs in my heart and the HOF. I’ll also forgive Billy and keep him in my heart. Statistically, Martin, IMO, falls just shy of the HOF, mostly because although he won, after winning he left the franchise in a shambles when he was gone….

Yogi said of Joe D: (they were roomies for Yogi’s first six and Joe’s last six years).
“A class guy. Changes his draws everyday.”… 🤓

Hall of Fame Yankees Manager Casey Stengel took out Joe DiMaggio out during a game, what makes Billy so special? He doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame as a Manager.
