Looks like Cole lost the argument. So frustrating. Maybe the single worst change in the game of the past 50 years, the downgrading of the starting pitcher. Teams are paying these guys a lot more money to do less. |

IKF: .187/.238/.213 At what point do the Yankees stop playing this guy? What is interesting is that even with his recent hot streak before getting hurt, Hicks' numbers are still worse. |

Any one want to venture a guess how many pitches a complete game took before they actually started with the pitch-count nonsense?
I’d go with 150-160… with some tidier 100-120 pitch outings. Remember, those guys would stay in after allowing 4 runs or so and still finish the game…

At this point, Nolan Ryan still had a good 150 pitches left in him… I heard Justin Verlander talking about how grateful he was to Jim Leyland for letting him try to work his way out of trouble late in the game when he was starting out and how important it was to his development as a pitcher. Young pitchers -- or even veterans -- don't get to do that anymore. |

Even moreso, reading the bat of the hitter may as well go the way of the nine-game World Series. Just start calling them throwers of sweepers and velocities. |

Even at my age, I could do what they’ve done with the bad combined… Of course we’d have to go back to the days where the hitter could request the pitch be thrown hard or soft and where… and before breaking balls… ⚾️… |
