Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well, we know Randal Grichuk loves to hit against the Yankees. The problem is he's another right-handed hitter. Bellinger is left-handed and can play centerfield and first base.

I think the only chance this team really has is to get one of these big names like the Astros did in 2017 when they got verlander and that allowed them to rise above the other teams.
While Grichuck is a decent player an incremental upgrade like that is not giving the Yankees separation from these other teams.
If they get Ohtani or Soto they are really sending a message to the rest of the division because now they have two top 5 players, a great bullpen, and a formidable rotation for the playoffs.
Getting Bellinger or Grichuck is nice but it's not sending the same message.

Those guys are not difference makers. Soto is left handed and can play left field.

"If they get Ohtani or Soto they are really sending a message to the rest of the division because now they have two top 5 players, a great bullpen, and a formidable rotation for the playoffs."
We have a team that can't hit to save its life, little team speed, and constantly injured. We can't win a WS that way.
They need to start over from scratch. But they won't of course.

You're missing the point. Why do the Astros win so much? They have Altuve, Alvarez and Bregman. They also have Tucker and Pena. They also picked up Jose Abreu this year and have Michael Brantley, but he is injured. Before that they also had Correra and Springer. So if you shut down Altuve you have to shut down the others as well. Altuve and Alvarez have been injured a lot this year which is why they are not as great as usual. The Yankees are too one dimensional. There's a big drop off between the best offensive player on the team Judge and the next best offensive player on the team which I think is Stanton??? It might be Rizzo? The fact I can't tell you is the issue. Bringing in Ohtani or Soto gives the Yankees a true player that can play on Judge's level and not collapse and have the team break if he isn't carrying it.

One major difference: the Astros are great at developing their own players. The Yankees are lousy at it.

One major difference: the Astros are great at developing their own players. The Yankees are lousy at it. It's amazing they were able to develop Judge into being a top 5 MLB player, but can't do it for any other offensive player. Hell and even then...it took half a season of A-Rod and then kicking him out to bring up Judge.
