I'll add my name to the chorus who find this assessment spot on. In the roughly 20 years since Cano, the Yankees system has generated exactly two worthwhile position players -- Gardner and Judge. So now all of a sudden we have an embarrassment of riches? I don't think so. Jesus Montero was a generational player, right? Slade Heathcott, Blake Rutherford couldn't miss. The guys you named -- Bird, Andujar, Sanchez, all destined for greatness. Go back to when Cashman took the reins and we had blue chip prospects like Drew Henson and Eric Duncan and Shelley Duncan. All sure things. Wasn't Dante Bichette Jr. also a can't miss? Whoops, wrong Bichette. Missed it by this much. You are of course correct. Proven talent beats cross your fingers every time. Excellent post. Volpe could maybe become that who knows? However I think he probably has more of Gardners ceiling than anything but he's young and that could change. Do I really see it with anyone else in the system? Not really? Wells they say bat is there but defense isn't. Dominguez has looked good and struggled too. Which is bullshit, LAD develop just fine, HOU has been winning for a while now and still find and incorporate their young talent, BOS has been up and down but they find it, all have big payrolls as well. It's a crutch the organization hides behind, yet the NYY media sorta just let it slide bc they need access to the execs. As I mentioned last week, Cashman deserved to be able to re-tool post Jeter/Arod era. He did a relaly good job with the Didi's, Sevy and Bird in 2015 came up and made a real significant impact, Judge and Sanchez in 2016, 2017 ALCS came quicker than expected, Gleyber in 2018. But somewhere along the line it all crumbled and this is the culmination. The roster is crap, they have no assets to really sell, maybe Gleyber, zero payroll flexibility, and a farm system they don't trust. |

Judge gives them the talent of like multiple players with how much he carries this team seeing that how is it not obvious paring him with Soto or someone similar would help hide how weak the rest of the team is in general? Rizzo and DJ are done for role players but they aren't carry the team type like arod jeter and Tex were and farther back tino Bernie etc there was always a second guy that carried the team if the first was in a slump Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

During the Judge FA they all said it was basically 50/50 he comes back except for Passan who never wavered he was staying. We've heard the Yankees are "in" on all these people at this trade deadline, but once the trade comes out I don't think I've seen once that the Yankees were "close or involved." So are people lying to these insiders? Is Passan that good? I still fail to believe the Angels who have a Judge like player, but worst pitching are fully ok buying and the Yankees are "not sure" with how many head to heads they have of the people in front of them and showed this weekend with Judge they are not the inept team we saw without Judge on it. |
