Saw an analyst speculating the Yankees could go after DeJong and move him to 3rd base. Since he's a SS, I assume he would be a good defensive player. He has a little pop with 16 hrs but he is a low BA guy who Ks a lot. I wouldn't do it. I’m not big on DeJong, but as a temporary measure he’d be quite an improvement over what we have…

Question: Which team will improve themselves more at the TDL, the Orioles or the Yankees? Heyman is reporting the Birds are in on both SP and a Closer and may swing big. They have better prospects than we do so one would think it is more likely they get an impact player, however I've also read that their GM is similar to Cashman in that he doesn't like to move top prospects.

Yankees' Jon Berti: Running at 95 percent Rotowire Jul 14, 2024 Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Berti (calf) has been running at approximately 95 percent as well as hitting and throwing, MLB.com reports. Berti is approaching a minor-league rehab assignment, which could begin shortly after the All-Star break. He's been on the injured list since May 25 as a result of a left calf strain. Berti will likely work as a utility man in a reserve role upon his return from the IL.

DJ still brings his glove to the yard but his bat just isn't coming around.

If Spencer Jones or Jassson Dominguez is moved in a deal that results in the Yankee WS win this year....and goes on to a HOF career with an AL rival...How many folks think the price is acceptable ? Acceptable. Dominguez won't be moved though at least according to what I've read from those covering the team. I'd trade Spencer Jones for Mason Miller - the closer in Oakland.

at this point mason miller is a proven ML'er - an all star in fact. spencer jones has proven nothing at the ML level. miller "could" be our closer for many years to come as he's controlled through 2029 with the swing & miss we desperately need. if we sign soto, perhaps it makes jones expendable. if not, then i can envision an OF w judge, martian and jones. on the other hand, jones has had an underwhelming year w way too many Ks. maybe in this instance, we don't "prospect hug" and trade while the value is high. a proven commodity vs an unproven one. also as the article mentions, soto only guaranteed only for this season, is miller a piece that "could" put us over the top for this season plus he wouldn't be rental.
however i'm not sure that oakland would trade a young, long term cost controlled all star at this point. he's someone i'm building a team around. we'll see ...

Less than 2 weeks until TDL, suspect activity will start picking up soon. A player who is rumored to be available is Luis Rengifo and some reports have had him linked to our Yankees. He would check a lot of boxes. He's having a career year so we might be buying high but he is young and has been pretty solid the last 3 seasons. He seems to check a lot of the boxes we need. He's a contact hitter, runs well and is versatile playing several IF and OF positions. Also a switch hitter, seems like he may be a better version of Cabrera. Would Cabrera and Periera or Peraza be enough to get him. Would you make that trade? I personally think all 3 (Cabrera, Periera and Peraza) are useless ... so yeah why not

One thing about Rengifo, he went on the IL with wrist inflammation on July 5th. Something to monitor.

If I am moving Spencer Jones I am talking to the Nats. They have a couple of guys that could be big improvements for the Yankees in the bullpen and in LF. If you are moving Jones you are "all in" for 2024 and this team is more than a closer away from being a WS favorite.

If you are moving Jones you are "all in" for 2024 and this team is more than a closer away from being a WS favorite. think you have to start w a closer before any other conversation. during this 8-18 run, holmes has blown 4 games and allowed runs in 6 of 10. while it sux, one thing to blow a won game in june or july but another to blow one in a 7 game series. does anyone really trust him to close out a big PS game.
also getting a closer bumps holmes to the 7th or 8th where he might thrive, providing depth. also not sure LF is a priority over 3B. though he's slumped mightily, not ready to throw verdugo on the scrap heap. 3B imho is a much bigger priority.

Yes, I know you must have been commenting about the other trade.
