Soto could have said that Sevy is a little arrogant for a man not scheduled to pitch. He could ask if the Mets were in first place. Or ask if the Mets were on track to make the playoffs. Or even speculate that maybe Sevy was pitching well enough to be traded to a contender. Instead, he gave a nebulous opening line and then a retrospective. I wish Soto had been more confident and aggressive in his response. I don't know if any Yankees are having a back and forth with Sevy, but I like when the Yankees do their talking where they are suppose to do their talking, on the baseball field. This is all about Sevy still wishing he was a Yankee.

We haven't heard that since 2009.

Would it be crazy to trade Torres away and then acquire Isaac Paredes from TB for 3B (righty hitter, can also play 2B or 1B, team control through 2027) and Jazz Chisholm from FLA for 2B (lefty hitter, can also play CF and be an emergency option at SS, team control through 2026)? Not sure what kind of raises they're due through arbitration next year, but Paredes is at $3.4M this year and Chisholm is at $2.625M so shouldn't break the bank moving forward. It'd be two infield positions filled relatively cheaply for multiple seasons each (3 with Volpe). One hitter from each side of the plate to help with lineup balance. Both can play multiple spots to help maneuver pieces around. Between the low dollar cost and the positional flexibility to make filling the lineup in easier, it should help make keeping Soto more plausible as well. 2B Chisholm (L) CF Judge (R) RF Soto (L) 3B Paredes (R) C Wells (L) DH Stanton (R) (when he's back) 1B Rice (L) (maybe Rizzo when back) LF Verdugo (L) SS Volpe (R) That's the potential lineup this year. And then looking ahead to next year, Torres' money is already gone because I have us dealing him. You can let Rizzo go because Rice has been as good (which isn't a great compliment lol). You can plan for Dominguez to take Verdugo's spot for a cheap replacement there. Rizzo/Torres/Verdugo gone would be $33.9M of payroll savings this year (factoring in Rizzo's buyout). Have to factor in what Paredes and Chisholm get during arbitration, but should be a good chunk of change left over to reallocate towards re-signing Soto for what would surely be more than his $31M salary this year. It could be done. Just don't expect anything of value in return for Gleyber. I like Paredes moderately. Chisholm is just meh for me.

This is all about Sevy still wishing he was a Yankee. Nobody cares what Sevy is thinking. The only thing that mattters is what is going on in the thoughts of Mr. Soto.

He should be available. Why not? I’d trade anybody not named Judge at this point if I could see value in doing so…

"It is what it is" I think was Soto calling what Sevy said trash talk or it was just Sevy's opinion. I can't speak for Soto, but he didn't sound to me like he was agreeing with what Sevy said. It was more of a Jeter-like response, not intended to fan the flames between the teams while still making Severino’s comments seem irrelevant…

As soon as they’re finished taking me in for my visions of Sidney Ponson…

Dodgers DFA Paxton to make room for No. 4 prospect By Juan Toribio @juanctoribio 2:29 AM EDT
“I really don’t know what to expect when I take the ball out there,” Paxton said Sunday. “I’m out there giving everything I’ve got, and some days I have more than others. I think that’s kind of where the inconsistency is coming from.”
This quote by Paxton says it all. I know we need someone besides Cole and Gil to take the ball, but this quote is very scary.
