Option 3 - Poor roster construction. The pitching is a joke After Cole what do they got? Why are Robertson, Evaldi & others doing so well with other teams? I dont get it The management is at fault Pitching & batting? What the hell is going on And thar dummy Boone , what a schmuck ? The Yankees team ERA is 9th in the majors, so i don't know why I keep hearing complaints about the staff. They're not perfect, but when you consider the injuries and the immense pressure they pitch under due to lack of support, they've been good.

or he might be so expensive that no one can afford him Anyone notice the Dodgers payroll has been decreasing? I don't think that's a coincidence, they're gearing up to make a run at Ohtani. yeah I put this tweet in another thread.

Everything. That’s a complete list of the Yankee Problems. We’re having a very exciting trade deadline as we freeze in place until all of the desirable chips have already been dealt, but boy… do we ever have prospects! Fine, .220 hitting prospects. Then we have those AAA guys that are hitting .320 or so with speed and power, but they’re worthless.
What a great time to be an old fart and finally have the time to watch them play! …

Cashman should get some blame, the biggest blame goes to Hal and his pocket hungry crony's. Can't construct a team when you have money limitations, you'll always make errors and piss poor judgments out of desperation. Yup! Cashman's hands are tied!

Yea they really should be going for a top name here at this deadline, but if Hal has anything to do with it, it will be someone like Grichuk which doesn't move the needle at all. This has been a frequent discussion topic on the other board. I will say, I'm always surprised that so many posters feel Hal is the problem because he doesn't spent when the Yankees are consistently amongst the top spenders in baseball. I think the lions share of the blame falls on Cashman because of poor roster construction and a failure to consistently develop young talent. Too many years, despite spending close to $300mm we still have too many players like Bauers or McKinney getting too much PT. There seems to be a feeling that if Hal just gave Cash another $50mm he could right this ship, even after some questionable decisions with the first $300mm investment.

I made this comment shortly after Hal saying he was confused about the complaints. Anyway my point was this teams needs another superstar in the lineup and they got him Juan Soto. I've made these same complaints about Cashman many times on this board. Hal is usually willing to spend the money, but Cashman too often spends it foolishly. Combine that with his poor talent evaluation skills, and he's lucky he still has his job with the Yankees.

The past couple of seasons I have called the Yankees roster a talented mess. Too many good infielders and not enough good OFers.
In my opinion, the Yankees aren't cheap, but at times they can be penny wise and pound foolish. I think Cashman is a good GM, but I understand some of the criticism he gets from some fans. Not a fan of his trades for Donaldson and Montas.
I would have liked if he signed Soto to a contract extension before trading for him. It's a great trade for the Yankees if they re-sign Soto. But if they don't re-sign him, the Yankees traded away King who looks to be coming into his own. Plus, Thorpe who was the Yankees best pitching prospect, and 2 other pitchers that showed potential. To be fair the Yankees did get one of the best hitters in MLB without trading their top prospects The Martian and Jones.

For 2024 the Yankees still have a lot to do. In my opinion, they need starting pitching preferably a top of the rotation starter, that way they will have a big 3 in a post season series. The Yankees also need starting pitching depth, and a Closer. I'd like to see them sign Hader or Hicks. Preferably Hader.

I'd do that every time.
