I would not have wanted to play you guys in recent years. I have to say one of the most fun experiences I had was being in Tuscaloosa for Penn State-Alabama. The fans were very gracious-- definitely gave some sharp jabs, but all good-natured and they were generous in sharing their bourbon with some Yankees. Pipps, you would have been adopted by tailgaters at LSU games! A few of your stories, facts about past players at LSU, a jovial disposition, and they would have plied you with liquor and jambalaya and boudin balls all night long. I have always loved the South for that very reason. Fascinating part of the country for me. I love the way they tease, especially when they realize you're not one of those uppity type of Northerners who tell them how much better we do things up there.

I rarely get up later than 5 AM, and sometimes if I post something early I'm surprised to see you on here after you were posting on a game from the West Coast. Definitely this time of year you want to get the walking in while the birds are still chirping and there's dew on the grass. Early morning runs are the best. It's quiet, cooler temps and no traffic on the streets. You can hear the birds and see an occasional coyote (there all over the place out here) but that's about it. Just got to drag your kids to go with ya'
We have a lot of foxes too in the neighborhood.

Coyotes are amazing animals, smart and crafty. Social animals, working in packs. Amazingly, unlike wolves, efforts to extirpate them only increased their numbers and moved them from the West into every state on the continent. For some reason, when coyotes' numbers in their pack dwindle, the females produce larger litters. When times are good, females produce smaller litters, so as not to have the pack become unwieldy and in competition for resources.

One way to tick off someone from south Louisiana is to find out a visitor was mistreated or rudely received without reason. Sadly, the behavior of this last generation of LSU fans has caused people like me to cringe. Fans should be clever with good-natured, yet biting remarks. For some reason, boorishness and entitlement mindsets are beginning to rule the day.

Check out a book by Dan Flores called Coyote America. Fascinating.
