I would have kept German...go figure. Unreliable alcoholic woman beater. Good riddance.

How did we not run away with the pennant with all that talent on one roster? Two Corderos down!…

Not too many free agents will be getting a qualifying offer.

Solar opts out of his contract and becomes a free agent.

Solar opts out of his contract and becomes a free agent. Interesting talent. He’ll be 32, but he’s definitely like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. Not a model of consistency. As a right handed bat, I certainly wouldn’t target him for NY. In a park that favors RH power, he might be worth a decent one or two year deal…

The only active players left from the 2009 Yankees are 38-year-old Mark Melancon, now with Arizona, and 38-year-old David Robertson, last seen with the Marlins.

Kennedy will always have that 21-4 season, and the knowledge that he revived his career at 34 by converting to the bullpen. More or less the forgotten man of the Hughes-Chamberlain-IFK failure…

Chamberlain had the stuff but not the head. Hughes had the potential but not the drive. How can a 25 year old convince himself that he will never be able to throw a change-up? Phil Hughes did.

Noting that Kennedy was 21-4 in one season… and 83-110 in the other 16. But 16. That’s a nice, long career. In and of itself an accomplishment…

Unreliable alcoholic woman beater. Good riddance. Are you saying he was an unreliable alcoholic or an unreliable woman beater? Either tends to be unreliable at the other…

I'm still frustrated by Hughes! He seemed to have all the visible tools. Joba's first few years with the Yankees were spectacular. But yeah, you could see early on that the lack of self-control would do him in. The trampoline business for instance. Another waste of talent.

Another waste of talent. Even more frustrating that he is still only 37 years old! With Hughes it seemed to be all lack of mindset. A Mission Viejo kid with too much California cruising vibe. One of the reasons Joe Simas recruited from Louisiana to California was to tap into another type of mental and physical constitution. Hughes, like Mariano Rivera said of Robbie Cano, never burned to win championships. Once Hughes wrapped up financial security, everything else was lagniappe. Baseball fans often fancifully ponder merging qualities of players: Rickey Henderson's physical ability with Derek Jeter's head; Tony Gwynn's work ethic and attention to detail with Manny Ramirez; and how about Phil Hughes' tools with Jaime Moyer's tenacity and moxie?
