Honestly… I don’t think it’s meaningful. He spoke the same truth we’ve all spoken here before as well. There’s really not much you can do to make Stanton’s situation pretty. At 396 HR, he’s going to be living proof of how a career can go from the Hall of Fame to a flame out…

I don't buy that he was trying to get Stanton to waive his no trade. There's no trade market for him. And if it hurts the Yamamoto negotiations even a smidgen its an even bigger bonehead move.

Does Yamamoto have to be posted or is he a true free agent? It makes a difference, because if he's posted, only the highest bidder will be signing him.

Chi, according to CBS Sports, Yamamoto is available through the posting system, which means his Japanese team gets a big payout as well, but no lost draft choice for the signing team.

It also means he's not really a free agent and will only negotiate with the team that wins the posting bid. That also means that this Cashman/Stanton's agent relationship doesn't mean much.

The posting system is different now. Once posted, the free agent is free to sign with any of the 30 teams. The Japanese club gets a portion of the contract as a release fee.

Stupid me, I'm stuck in the Tanka era. I didn't know they changed the rules, this is certainly more fair to the player.
