Thats one season and he went on the DL not long after that AS game . And then got hurt again in the alcs that year . All of that is the history of what happened to him last year. It was an injury from which he wasn’t fully recovered from that set him back. So why not treat him like other starting pitchers and send him out in the rotation again to see if he bounces back? If he does, and he’s effective again, great. If not, thr do what needs to be done? Bullpen, release, trade, Whatever. Why dump him because of something you “think”?… Just wondering what do two groin injuries have to do with his shoulder injury?

Chapman signs with the Pirates. He'll probably be traded by the 4th of July. He will be traded to yet another playoff contender at the deadline lol

In most cases if a pitcher shows the ability to start that’s what his team will want out of him. Nestor was a high quality starter in 2022. That’s where I want him… period. If he breaks, he breaks… Nestor started more than half the time in the minor leagues (122 games of which 67 were starts) with an overall ERA of 2.55. In the majors, he has started 56 of 104 games - much like his usage in the minor leagues. Nestor finished 8th in the Cy Young voting in 2022 with 28 starts in 28 games. In fact, in both the major leagues and the minor leagues, Nestor has not pitched in relief since July 23, 2021, against Boston, giving up three runs in two innings of work. Other than that one outing, he's been used exclusively as a starter since: 14 games to end 2021; 28 in 2022; and 14 in 2023 (two starts in the minor leagues and 12 in MLB). Yeah and he hasnt been able to stay healthy as a starter since he cane back to the yankees

YANKEES Yankees, Mets in talks with same World Series-winning pitcher who seems close to deal Published: Jan. 22, 2024, 4:49 p.m. By Jimmy Hascup | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
The New York Yankees appeared like the favorites to sign Héctor Neris for the past week, but it seems more teams have jumped into contention to sign him. One of those is the New York Mets.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, who cited league sources, the Mets and Yankees “have spoken with the representatives” for Neris. The sources told Martino that the Yankees, who are aiming to win in 2024, still is the “more likely fit,” but Neris has interest from more than just the New York teams.
MLB reporter Héctor Gómez said last week that Neris was seeking a three-year, $50 million deal, but Martino reported Monday that Neris’ asking price is lower than that; he wants $7-11 million per year for only one or two seasons. Neris opted out of $8.5 million player option at the start of the offseason, so it seems likely he will get more than one year.
That ask would fit into the $10 million the Mets have earmarked to spend the rest of the offseason, per Martino, and it also matches Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns’ bullpen strategy for this offseason: depth-building on short-term contracts.
Retired All-Star second baseman/turned podcast host Carlos Baerga, a former Met, wrote Jan. 20th on social media that Neris was “about to sign” with the Yankees. Clearly, he has not made a decision.
Neris recorded a 1.71 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 mark in 68 1/3 innings last season, his second with the Houston Astros after winning the World Series with them in 2022. The 10-year veteran spent the first eight years of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies. He has a career 3.24 ERA with a 30.1% strikeout rate.
Neris, 34, is still a top-tier late-inning reliever, even with a fastball velocity at 93 mph. He is hard to square up: his exit velocity against (86.5 mph) and expected batting average against (.196) were in the top 5% in the league. Neris could provide the bridge to Edwin Diaz in the back end of the Mets’ bullpen, where the Mets are lacking. Currently, Brooks Raley, Drew Smith and Jorge Lopez would be the best candidates.

So many starters are converted relievers that I'm embarrassed to be responding to this. David Wells, Curt Schilling, Chris Sale are examples of relievers that became starters. A couple of other guys you might know Michael King and Clark Schmidt ... Hello!?!?!? In most cases if a pitcher shows the ability to start that’s what his team will want out of him. Nestor was a high quality starter in 2022. That’s where I want him… period. If he breaks, he breaks…
In my opinion, it's way too early to judge if Cortes' injury is because he became a full time starter. I can't speak for the Yankees, but my guess is that they probably would agree with you since Starting Pitching is at a premium, and Cortes has shown that he can be a quality Starting Pitcher.

YANKEESYankees’ uniforms will look different this seasonUpdated: Jan. 23, 2024, 10:04 a.m.|Published: Jan. 23, 2024, 9:16 a.m.By Jimmy Hascup | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comAaron JudgeThe New York Yankees' road uniforms this season will be without any white features.
The New York Yankees’ corner outfielders won’t be the only changes fans will notice on Opening Day.
When the team begins its regular season March 28th at Houston, it will do so with a uniform that has a plainer and cleaner look, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch. Any hint of white will be removed from the gray uniforms in a move that harks back to the flannel-wearing era of Mickey Mantle and other legends.
As you’re no doubt aware, the Yanks’ road jerseys have long featured white outlining on the chest lettering and back number, along with decorative trim on the sleeve cuffs. The white outlining and sleeve trim were both added in 1973, when the team transitioned from flannels to stretch knits. But according to a page from the 2024 MLB Style Guide, which was provided to me by a source, the white outlining and sleeve trim are both being eliminated this season:
Lukas said that even making this small alteration to the uniform is considered “earthshaking news” for a Yankees organization that still has a facial hair policy. The Yankees decreased the space between “New” and “York” in 2016, the last time they made a change to their road uniform. Yankees pitchers and catchers report to spring training Feb. 15th, and the team will play its 1st game Feb. 25th.
