I was so blessed to have come in to that station with my grandfather about a year before it was torn down. It felt almost like coming into Notre Dame Cathedral, at least to a kid. He took my brother and me to a Rangers game at the old Madison Square Garden (which would itself be torn down in 1968) and lunch at Jack Dempsey's (The Manassa Mauler alas didn't appear that day.) That one day has given me a lifetime of remembered joy. Around the same time that Penn Station was destroyed, there were plans to demolish Carnegie Hall. Fortunately the great violinist Isaac Stern led a furious campaign to save it. The United States just doesn't appreciate history like Europe. Even some of the high schools in America that have been torn down to be replaced with something more akin to a prison. Penn Station's sad ending did at least spur a preservation movement that's been fairly successful. But I don't recall much of an effort to save Yankee Stadium. I don't remember now if George was already non compos mentos when the plans were laid down. I just don't understand how anyone could deliberately destroy The House That Ruth Built. Because that's not where the Yankees play anymore.

Okay..."Barefoot In The Park" Jane Fonda! Come on, now? Or, in "Barbarella." As Bob Seger sang: Well firm and high…

It's one thing that bugs me and sometimes makes me think I'm a sham of a Yankee fan. Just a thoughtless project to replace pure baseball history with a shopping mall disguised as a ball park.

Nice catch by Springer. Hey, that rhymes with Inger. And with young inger… which he looked a bit like. Two young inger plays stopped us from having a better inning…

It’s part of why, once the old ball yard was razed I didn’t really care if I made the migration there or not. I still should have. There were probably times I could have gone in a group of local Yankee fans. Rising Sun had quite a few of us…

With Cole having this love affair with Rortvedt does that give Rortvedt the inside track for a job next year? It would be nice if he was hitting, but he’s better than a .110 hitter… and has some pop. When he throws, it’s quite a show. Like the ball is on a string from the plate to second base…

Wonderful performance from Cole. No walks, nine strikeouts, only two hits and one wild pitch that led to the only run.
