So without using cop out cheap answers like “they suck”, I’m really curious what was the front office’s view of the team heading into the season. Fans saw this was a flawed incomplete team yet it seemed like they had way more trust in the team. Then during the season when the team struggled they did nothing to improve the team. Did the just quit the season or the assumed the team will turn it around? It’s like Cashman and the FO were so nonchalant before the season and nonchalant during it when we all saw the team struggling. Did this bad season really take them by surprise? Do you think they’ll make changes or will bank on the guys getting back to form?

I’d expect they have up to some extent because there were so man injuries and non-performers that they didn’t see anyone they could get at a reasonable price that would move the needle. As far as next year, I feel confident that DJ is going to bounce back. I’m not confident that Rizzo will, but DJ will be his replacement. I’m not sold on Torres, but doubt he’s going anywhere. The team will be counting on Volpe improving on his bat to ball and OBP skills. There are serious concerns remaining about 3B, LF, CF and ax always pitching. Decisions have to be made. Can Peraza get his bat going? Can he hit fastballs? We need a bat, and left field would be a great place to plant Soto. Will the team be willing to up the payroll enough? Can Florial hold down CF until the Martian is ready? Is the Martian for real? It’s going to be interesting. The catcher position is in a state of flux. Is Wells the man for the job? What do we do with Stanton? After two years of low BA’s do they dare count on him again? …

What makes no sense to me is that they were 3 out or so at the trade deadline and you saw teams behind them like Seattle and the cubs with a worse record make moves. The Al was obviously weak and I feel if they had gotten just one or two impactful bats they probably could have been the 6 games better they needed to be for a wc spot. I think they have to make changes you have judge talking out against the front office and gm. That isn't good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think most of us thought this team would make the playoffs, but wasn't counting on all the injuries to key players. Rodon was supposed to be a second ace to Cole but was worthless most of the season. The Judge injury was a killer and who knows what's going on with Stanton, is he injured or is his regression going to continue? Another problem is that Hal does have a budget for the payroll. It's a large budget but it's there and Cashman loaded this team with a lot of deadweight payroll, like Stanton and Donaldson. Throw in Rodon being an expensive nonfactor and guys like DJ and Rizzo who were also injured or nonproductive and that's too much payroll being wasted and Hal wasn't going to spend more to help the team, despite what he said to the press earlier in the year.
