Soto pops one out of the yard! Verdugo spins one over the wall! Might not be right, but his is certain to be at least as corny! “Soto slams one in the seats! Juan more time Juan Soto!” “Verdugo vacates the venue via the right field seats! It’s a veritable Verdugo Vacation around the diamond!” LOL! Those are good calls too.

After a HR, I wonder if Sterling will start singing "Oh Soto mio". LOL, I hope he withholds the temptation to sing 🎤. You must have caught the Soto pop (soda pop reference) …

If Sterling ever retires, I’m nominating you for the job. You may have a voice like the spawn of Bob Goldthwait and Carol Kane for all I know, so I’m going out on a limb here… Actually, I was somewhat popular calling baseball games, academic competitions, graduation ceremonies, awards' nights, talent shows, and track meets. When I was a school site administrator, the students every year or so asked me, "Mr. Rizzuto, who is that radio guy that does morning announcements?" I would tell them it was a famous professional speaker and former DJ that wanted to remain anonymous, and we paid in Twizzlers and Red Vines. One day my door was open and some of the students saw it was me on the microphone and the game was over. I become quite ham-ish with a microphone in my hands. Spotlights that blind you from seeing an audience is torturous and disconcerting. Also, the sound delay at track meets takes a little while to acclimate and become comfortable. You have to mentally convince yourself to stop listening to what is coming out of the speakers and trust yourself. Rizzuto with the golden voice! So cool, who knew?

The Pitch clock turns me off! For me though, it's a tough listen, because almost everything they say turns into an ad! Really annoying! Everything they say or report ends in "brought to you by" As if listening to Suzyn & Sterling isn't painful enough...

You must have caught the Soto pop (soda pop reference) … Yep, that reference gave me a good laugh. I don't mind when Sterling sings. When he would sing the Grandy Man, I would always laugh. When the Yankees traded for Stanton, I thought for sure that Sterling would sing "Hey, Giancarlo, Giancarlo Italiano" [Mambo Italiano] but as far as I know he never did.

I think they're an embarrassment, but I have come to accept that that is a minority viewpoint. Two generations of Yankee fans have passed by knowing only John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman as the radio voices of the Yankees. To me it's a clown show, every bit as bad as Hawk Harrelson was. They have less knowledge of the game than the average fan. But obviously people like them.

My voice is far from golden, more in the range of "distinct." One time when I was living in California, I called into a sports radio show and my brother in Louisiana happened to be listening while washing his car. He called me and said he just heard me on the radio. I asked how he knew it was me, as the show could be heard nationally. He said he recognized my voice and that the caller was from California. This was at the time that Michael Vick was arrested for dog fighting. I called in and accused Bobby Hebert (former Saints QB and south Louisiana native from Lafourche Parish...pronounced La-foosh) of running a similar animal fighting ring after he began playing for the Atlanta Falcons. Bobby vehemently denied it, and I replied the the rumor was that he ran a "Goose Fighting Ring" and he supposedly had a Speckled Belly Goose named "The Big Chief" that was undefeated. His partner on the show at that time was Deke Bellavia, also known as "The Big Chief." Deke cracked up laughing and hooting, but Bobby didn't seem to enjoy the joke. Hebert must have not had a drink yet that day. He gets hammered during Saints games.

When I am blacked out in Texas from watching the Yankees when they play the Astros or the Rangers, I have tried to stick with Sterling and Waldman, but I just cannot do it. I OD on them very quickly and begrudgingly go to the opposition's radio broadcast. Hawk Harrelson was the worst. The definition of a "homer."

Hawk was knowledgeable about the sport and was a decent play by play, it was just his over the top homerism that got on some people's nerves. Some of his catch phrases and saying were actually funny, or at least I thought they were.

Suzie: “Well fans, exquse me whyle eye take a baffwoom bweak, brawht to ewe bi Scott Tissu Compawny.”… A true story you may relate to... As I've said, my wife and I drive up to Colorado several times a year. Since we're in no rush, I like to avoid the Interstate...take back roads to visit interesting, small towns along the way. One year we came out of Santa Fe thru Taos with plans to stop in Alamosa. At the time I was catching the Yankee games on MLB Radio/Sirius. Sterling was announcing the game. As I pulled into the hotel parking lot Yanks were down by two, bottom 9...runner on 1st, 2 outs...Chase Headley at the plate. So, I sat in the car to listen while my wife checked in. As I listened intently, Headley connected and Sterling gave one of his "IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS GONE!!" to tie the game. I quickly rushed to the room to fire up my laptop to watch the rest of the inning...hopefully a Yankee walk off win. By the time I got settled in turned out the ball had bounced into the stands for a GR double...no run scored, Yanks lost. I can't post my reaction here, and what I called and still refer to Sterling as...kinda like Bucky ******* Dent.

Some of his catch phrases and saying were actually funny, or at least I thought they were. My wife is from Chicago...most of her family still there. Most are Cubs fans, but a few ChiSox fans...so I've had plenty of exposure to Harrelson. Not a fan of over-the-top "homerism", even if it's from the Yankee side. "He gone" and "good guys" really irritated me.
