Not sure if it is reliable but MLBScoop posted on X that the Dodgers have taken the lead for Yamamoto.

I don't think they are a reliable source. They posted this earlier as well:

Thanks Kaybil, I feel better seeing that opposite opinion from the same source. I wish he would get it over with already. Hopefully, by Friday.

I think it's driving these media guys nuts because it's dragging out so long and they really have no idea where he's going to sign and there's nothing new to report.

Unless he opts for Yankee tradition, I have a feeling he signs with the Mets. Hope I'm wrong, but Cohen seems to have stupid money and very willing to spend it. I also think it will be interesting to see if he or other top FAs start deferring money like Othani did.

If Cohen wins the bidding war with something over $400 million it would be difficult to be too tough on the Yankees for not matching that kind of money. And it does seem like deferrals may be an idea whose time has come, at least until it starts looking to the Players Union like a device to decrease compensation.

My understanding going back months is that he wanted to star on the biggest stage. He played in a secondary league in Japan. Pitching n NY with the vaunted international tradition of the Yankees was why the team was/is so optimistic. Beyond a certain point the money becomes second to comfort level and ambition. I could be wrong ,we'll see.

Let's hope Uncle Steve doesn't totally blow our offer out of the water. If its close I think he'll choose the Yankees.

It would be absurd to pay that much for a player that's only going to appear in 32 games tops.

Just my 2 cents....But I still think that the Yankees are the slight favorite to sign Yanmamoto, unless some team offers him a ridiculous contract. I'm not sure if the Yankees should or would offer Yamamoto, Cole/deGrom money per year.

Yeah, I also see the Mets as the Yankees biggest competition to sign Yamamoto.

My view is that if the Yamamoto contract is big enough that it affects an offer to Soto for an extension then it's not worth it.

I want to see uncle Steve sign Snell to a huge contract, and sign Alonso to a huge contract extension, that way maybe he won't bid on Soto.

I really hope that the Yankees can sign Soto to a contract extension. In my opinion, once the Yankees add a starting pitcher [Yamamoto?] and a Closer [Hicks? Hader?] the Yankees should make it a priority to sign Soto to a contract extension.
