Honestly get Bauer and Snell and Hader and Cease. If you were gonna commit $300 mil you can get all 4. NOT BAUER ! NOT EVER BAUER ! But perhaps the Yanks go after a killer bullpen with Hader and Hicks added to mix. Yea I doubt they're going after Bauer. I hope they don't pass on all the starters and go for the "lets shorten the starters to 5 innings and buy all the relievers we can get" approach. That seems to rarely work. They need to add 2 decent starters minimum. |

When I read what the Dodgers did with that contract, I knew sadly they would get him! I think they knew already he would sign with them! Amazon what this game has come too money wise!  |

Dodgers have reset the free agent market this off-season. Paying Ohtani essentially 50% more than the expected market rate and giving a 5' 10" 170lb pitcher a 12 year contract having never thrown an MLB pitch.
The Yankees should have went hard after the secondary free agent pitchers before the market reset
I cant see any proven MLB pitcher like Monty or Snell settling for anything less than 30-35 million per season.
Soto will be looking for $750M or more since he is only 25

When I read what the Dodgers did with that contract, I knew sadly they would get him! I think they knew already he would sign with them! Amazon what this game has come too money wise! I read where it was Ohtani's camp that came up with the idea for the large deferrals. It almost like he and Yamamoto talked in the past and planed to team up in LA. |

I think he will come a bit cheaper and he is most likely to pitch 30 games and 170 inn Yankees need stability in there rotation more than anything right now ... we cant count on Rodon or Nestor to be healthy. Snell or Bauer for upside plus Giolito or Monty for stability would be nice ... but I think that is likely going to be around $400m |

I'm not so sure the market has been reset as radically as feared. The nature of Ohtani's contract means the present value of the contract is far less than a normal 10 year contract. I'd guess that falls in the $350M range. And 12 years for an untested pitcher is a huge gamble. Not sure anyone but the Dodgers are willing to take it, although we came close.

I am going to absolutely LOVE watching the Dodgers bounced from the playoffs. It would be even better if we beat them in the World Series. First things first, we need at least 1, possibly 2 great starters.

The contracts are getting so long and so expensive that I see huge price increases on the horizon for tickets and television services. More games will probably get farmed out to Apple, and other sources outside of MLB.com. At some point I might have to go back to watching little dots on my phone… This is one grumpy old fart that’s had enough. Ah, what the Hell…my big dirt nap isn’t all that far off… |
