Every Year with the Yankees, it's win now! Sadly the last time was 2009 when George was still alive! I was a lot younger! I always felt at some point we needed a ground up rebuild! It never happens! We have Judge, a rental in Soto and Cole and a DH sucking wasted money! I'd be shocked if Soto is back in 2025! This guy is tired of being traded and wants the big bucks! I like Volpe a lot and could see him being a STAR! But the rest look ordinary at best and we just gave away 7 young pitchers. So we do the fill in again and pick bodies off the garbage heap. Sometimes you win and most of the time you lose like last year! I read a lot of posts in this thread and they are educated about the game and players, way above my head! I always look at the overall picture ( Yankees ) and don't look at the details. I see Soto putting up big numbers for when he hits FA! But I must say, the overall pitching looks really weak! If they put in the 5 inning rule, Its over for Staton!

They're everything we're supposed to be in terms of acquiring talent. Only have the Mickey Mouse WS of 2020 to show for it though.

Well, they've been in 3 WS in the last 6 years. Won in 2020, lost to the Cheatin Astros in 2017. Our Yanks havent been there since 2009. Most NY fans would have taken the Dodgers record..

Jeter Downs excels at something the Yankees sorely fail at – stealing bases. No matter the opponent, the shortstop found a way to keep snagging free bases with his legs, collecting 118 stolen bags so far as a professional. Last year, the Yankees ranked 21st as a team in the category, finishing with 100. By comparison, they were only 90 away from first place with Cincinnati. lastwordonsports.com/baseball/2023/12/29/yankees-claim-jeter-downs/

The Yankees Will Lean on Several Young Pitchers However, they’re also expected to lean on several youngsters making the transition. Notably, Will Warren should have an opportunity to not only crack the bullpen but also snag a back rotation slot. Warren is 24 years old and hosted a 3.61 ERA across 99.2 innings in Triple-A this past season. He has a good repertoire of pitches, and his upside is legit. Two years younger than him, though, Chase Hampton, at 22, is also trying to make his MLB debut. Hampton pitched 59.2 innings in Double-A this past campaign, hosting a 4.37 ERA, 10.26 strikeouts per nine, including a 65.8% left-on-base rate and 32.9% ground ball rate. Hampton is now considered the Yankees’ top pitching prospect after Drew Thorpe was moved to the Padres. Don’t get discouraged by his ERA. Hampton has tremendous stuff that could translate well for the Bombers. His fastball averages 91–95 mph but features high spin rates, good carry, and arm-side run. He generates a significant number of swings and misses with his curveball and slider, giving him a tantalizing pitch mix. That’s not even to mention his nasty change-up that fades away from batters. He could end up sliding into the bullpen if the Yankees need support at some point in 2024, but he has the makeup of a starter, and they’re simply waiting for him to reach his potential. Hampton transitioned to Double-A, arguably the most difficult minor-league level, after just two months of his professional career. With a good delivery and dynamic release, Hampton shouldn’t be overlooked as an impact player next season, if not in 2025, when the Yankees could utilize him as a primary starter. empiresportsmedia.com/new-york-yankees/yankees-new-top-pitching-prospect-could-make-an-impact-in-2024/

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: It’s been two years since Luis Gil impressed in his first taste of MLB action, striking out 38 across 29.1 innings in 2021. Since then, Gil’s been in near-constant rehab for Tommy John surgery and a shoulder procedure, but he seems to be in good health and will be ready for spring training. The Yankees will be cautiously managing his arm and workload, but Gil could be a key addition to the club’s pitching depth.

Bleacher Report | Doric Sam: With the Yankees at a crossroads when it comes to starting pitching options, there are already reports the team is considering a “super bullpen” approach, loading up the relief corps to take pressure of a thin rotation. At the same time, Josh Hader, arguably the NL’s best closer, is on the free agent market and in search of a nine-figure contract. This would be the richest contract for a reliever in baseball history, and while I’m not so sure the Yankees would actually agree to it, they’re in the mix alongside the Rangers and Dodgers for Hader’s talented left arm.

No to super bullpen with a thin rotation! Terrible idea! And sad! I'm not sure they will do this in 2024, but they are testing the 5 inning rule! If a pitcher doesn't go at least 5 innings, the team looses the DH for the rest of the game. I must admit that's one new rule I would love! It most likely means good by Stanton!

Though that rule seems good at first to encourage longer starting pitcher outings, I think its too much. You're punishing a team more if a starter has a bad game and say can't make it out of the first inning. Its too much of a departure from how things have worked for years. I wouldn't do it. Just my two cents.

Look at the team today! Sevy gone, Germon gone, Monty gone, King gone! 7 young pitchers gone in trades. Yankees haven't had much luck with the miner leagues lately! I think to Cashman they are all trade chips and nothing more! We just gave away our top pitching prospect for a rental! But we all know what players we see on the team today will be totally different come April with our new win now team! Will it be enough to get us to the WS! Time will tell! I thought a murders row of Bird, Sanchez, Judge and Stanton was going to be fantastic! Ruthian! Sometimes it's just bad luck!

Just my two cents. Good point. But can't they qualify the rule by claiming that if an injury to the SP occurs, then the reliever to him has to go five innings? I do think MLB has to do something to curb this rash of blow-out-your-arm relievers throwing circa 100 mph. I'd like to see SP go the distance more often, learning how have an array of pitches they can use after seeing batters two-to-three times in a game.

Just my 2 cents, and I know my opinion isn't a popular one..But...The Yankees shouldn't sign Monty. He was basically a .500 pitcher for them. Granted, there were games where Monty had a quality start but didn't get the run support. But some pitchers pitch well enough to win, but also pitch well enough to lose. He has pitched better since leaving the Yankees so the questions are...Did he come into his own and become a better pitcher? Is he one of the many players that seem to play better when they aren't wearing pinstripes?
I wouldn't be upset if the Yankees signed Monty, but in my opinion, the Yankees have better options.
