Very early in his career but I'm starting to feel that Volpe is the player we have seen. I'm not sure he's ever going to hit for average or be a high on base guy based on his MiLB history and what he's shown us at the big league level. He does enough things well that he will be given every chance to succeed but I do worry at some points the negatives may start to outweigh the positives. Is this criticism unfair......probably.

MLB Trade Rumors: Series Preview: Yankees @ Orioles
The top two teams in a crowded AL East division are set to clash for the first time this season in a four-game set that starts tonight. The Orioles host the Yankees at Camden Yards starting at 6:35pm local time, when right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (4.45 ERA) will face fellow righty Clarke Schmidt (3.55 ERA). Dean Kremer (4.61 ERA) and Corbin Burnes (2.55 ERA) are set to take the mound opposite Nestor Cortes (3.50 ERA) and Luis Gil (4.01 ERA), respectively, over the next two days. The Orioles have yet to announce who will face lefty Carlos Rodon (2.48 ERA) in the series finale, but right-hander Kyle Bradish (2.83 ERA in 2023) will likely make his season debut that day.
Baltimore sits just one game back of New York entering play, but the Yankees that have been the hotter team of late. New York took two of three from the Brewers in Milwaukee this weekend, while the Orioles lost two of three to the A’s. In particular, the Yankees enjoyed scorching hot weekends from a trio of key sluggers who had struggled so far in 2024: Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo combined to go 16-for-41 with five homers, one of which was the 300th of Rizzo’s career. Will the Orioles pitching staff, which could be without closer Craig Kimbrel for the time being, be able to cool off the Bronx Bombers?

MLB.com: Rejoice, all ye Yankees fans. Reigning Cy Young winner and Yankee ace Gerrit Cole continues to progress. Cole played catch again on Friday and skipper Aaron Boone remarked that “everything went really well.” Boone added that Cole could return to throwing from a mound in the next week or so. Cole and the Yankees are understandably being cautious. Cole started throwing from flat ground on April 8th, slowly building from 25 throws at 60 feet.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips ($): Carlon Rodón’s cutter has been a heck of a weapon for the southpaw this season amid a bounce-back 2024. Standard “small sample size warning” aside, opponents are only hitting .125 against the pitch. What makes it more interesting is that Rodón has developed the pitch very rapidly over a period of months. With advancing technology, it’s easier than ever for pitchers to develop new pitches or tweak existing ones.

Marcus Stroman on Juan Soto: “He’s a once-in-a-generation player. I legit think that and he’s only f—ing 25. I truly believe he’ll go down as one of the best hitters of all time.”

I'm sure you were expecting the Jorge/Arod combo on this list. Maris and Mantle had the fewest seasons together (7) of any duo on that list. And in two of those seasons, Maris played in only 90 and 46 games, and in a third played in only 119 games. Also in one of those seasons, Mantle played in only 65 games, and in another 108. In 1963, as I well remember being traumatized by, Mantle and Maris combined played in only 155 games (90 for Roger and 65 for Mickey.) So they had fewer opportunities than the others. Jorge and A-Rod were together for eight seasons, but A-Rod was very durable for most of that run (although only 99 games in their last year together of 2011) and so was Jorge (although he played in only 51 games in 2008.) But absolutely, I would not have expected those two on such a list.
