We can only hope Stanton's resurgence continues. I have been encouraged by Stanton’s improvement, but tempered by some remaining bad signs. When it comes to velocity, a 93 mph fastball is the highest I recall him barreling this year for a hit. His home runs have been on breaking ball hangers if I am correct.

Shows a bit how dumb pitchers can be. Why would they ever throw anything off speed to Stanton? I guess they’re pitching the their own apparent strength when they do that instead of Stanton’s apparent weakness?…However it happens I hope we see plenty of it as the year goes on…

Ironically, this approach in turn makes them susceptible to breaking balls.

Ironically, this approach in turn makes them susceptible to breaking balls. As recently as last September Stanton still generated the fastest bat speed in MLB. See: www.baseballamerica.com/stories/how-important-is-bat-speed-for-mlb-hitters/If pitchers could locate their fastballs exactly where they wanted them on each pitch, every game would be under two hours.

Scratching my head on this one. Why be short on infield help and their 4th outfielder, Trent Grisham, doesn't get a lot of playing time? Who is Taylor Trammell, Yankees’ acquisition a day before their series against Rays? pinstripesnation.com/taylor-trammell-yankees-acquisition-2024-04-19/Who is Taylor Trammell? Taylor Trammell, a 26-year-old player, brings a physical presence to the Yankees‘ bench, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds. While his initial stint with the Dodgers this year yielded limited results (0 hits in 6 at-bats), the left-handed hitter has experience across four major league seasons (2021-2024) with the Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodgers. Over 357 career plate appearances, he’s compiled a .165 batting average with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs. Drafted 35th overall by the Cincinnati Reds in 2016, Taylor Trammell has seen his career navigate through several trades. He was part of a three-team deal in July 2019 before being sent to the Mariners by the San Diego Padres in August 2020. Yankees gamble on Taylor Trammell The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Taylor Trammell on Thursday, hoping to unlock the potential that made him a highly touted prospect. According to MLB Trade Rumors, his major league career hasn’t lived up to the early hype. In 357 plate appearances spread across four seasons, Taylor Trammell has compiled a modest .165/.266/.361 batting line, striking out at a concerning 37.3% clip. While his 10.9% walk rate shows promise, he hasn’t consistently translated his minor league success to the big leagues. This lack of consistent performance led to both the Mariners and Dodgers designating him for assignment recently, as he’s also out of minor league options. However, there’s a glimmer of hope. Taylor Trammell boasts impressive numbers in Triple-A since 2021. Across 812 plate appearances, he’s displayed power and on-base skills, with a .274/.381/.506 batting line (translating to a 116 wRC+, meaning he was 16% better than the league average). He also launched 38 home runs and stole 33 bases in 40 attempts, showcasing his well-rounded skillset. It’s important to note these statistics come from the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, but they still demonstrate Trammell’s potential. The Yankees are taking a chance on Taylor Trammell, hoping a change of scenery and a fresh start in pinstripes can unlock his long-awaited major league success. However, some analysts might question the roster fit, considering the team’s current composition. At 26 years old, Taylor Trammell brings power and speed to the Yankees’ bench, qualities he displayed in the minors. The challenge lies in translating that success to the big leagues consistently. Until DJ LeMahieu returns from injury, Trammell will provide depth alongside outfielder Trent Grisham and utility player Jahmai Jones. This move does leave the Yankees without a dedicated backup shortstop. Oswaldo Cabrera, who can fill that role, is currently starting at third base, and Jones would only be considered a shortstop option in emergencies. The Yankees will need to find creative solutions to address this potential defensive gap.

Bryan Hoch: DJ LeMahieu said that an MRI taken last night showed a lack of healing and doctors were not comfortable with him beginning a rehab assignment. He is frustrated and hopes to be playing in 3-4 days. Aaron Boone says the doctors are targeting Tuesday for DJ LeMahieu to begin his minor league rehab assignment.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves: • Placed RHP Nick Burdi on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 4/17) with right hip inflammation. • Recalled RHP Cody Morris (#82) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. • Added OF Taylor Trammell (#33) to the active roster.

It’s best to move on and let youth be served. DJ has to settle for leftovers… the time comes for every player…

Has to be the constant nagging injuries for DJ. He was a great hitter and fielder it is a shame to see him fall so quickly. He just does not seem to be able to shake them.

The Analyst | Zach Crizer: Anthony Volpe has been one of the standard-bearers of the Yankee offense to start the season, with a sterling .881 OPS in his sophomore season entering play Friday. While it’s still early in the year, early indicators about his swing decisions—and indeed just how selective he is in general—are good omens that he’ll keep up this offensive outburst for the near future. He doesn’t quite have the pull power of 2023, but he’s become a much more complete hitter, and the only question remaining is whether or not he can keep it up. theanalyst.com/na/2024/04/anthony-volpe-stats-new-york-yankees/
