My apologies for starting this brouhaha. My post was meant as joke. The joke was fine. The recipient has no tolerance for humor as he’s shown on multiple occasions. It is what it is… As far as I’m concerned this one is over. We move on. I didn’t even realize I was playing a role in some kind of a suspected plot… See you had to go and wish people Happy Valentines Day.

When I was selling propane in MD I made a sale to a guy that owned a deli. In time we became friends. He was an unusual fellow in that he carried near to 500 pounds on his 6’ frame. I recalled the first time that I ordered a sandwich at his shop and asked for a small. He laughed and said, “We don’t do anything small here. One size, and that’s large.” Okay. I couldn’t finish the sub I got for lunch. In fact, my then wife ate some of it and I ate the rest. One day he offered to make us a pizza at no charge. When I took the box from him I was stunned at the weight. It was a meat lovers pizza, which I took home for dinner that night. Neither of us could eat more than one slice at a time and I’m ashamed to say we couldn’t finish it. I think two slices went to waste. He was also the guy I got a used deli case from at a later date to house my N scale railroad set (I was separated then, so I put it in the kitchen)… I worked in delis thru my teen years...made a lot of sandwiches, but didn't make pizza. Every part of the country has regional styles and specialties. I love a Nathan's New York Hot Dog, but a Chicago Style Hot Dog is my favorite. There are some foods I still miss since relocating to California from NJ. Certainly miss diners and mom and pop places. There was a place next door to the Supermarket I worked at in highschool that made great Italian hot dogs. Also miss having a pork roll sandwhich at the diner after a night of drinking.

Same here… My point re “NY style pizza snobs” is that I’ve been in pizza joints in other parts of the country where, almost inevitably, some buffoon with a NY accent loudly proclaims…THIS AIN’T NY PIZZA…as if NY pizza is the one and only. I wanna say…no sh1t, you’re in Denver (or choose any other city). To me, that’s comparable to criticizing “Mexican” food in NYC because it’s not Tex-Mex as served in the Southwest, or “Chinese” food in Dallas because it’s not the same as served in San Francisco. And BTW…I’ve had some really crappy pizza in NYC, and some great “Mexican” food in NYC. Haven't had "Chinese" food in Dallas.

I have yet to find any Chinese food restaurants in Dallas that I crave to frequent a second time, but I have found really good Thai places. There are good traditional Mexican as well as good Tex-Mex places, obviously, but I do miss some of my old haunts in California for Mexican, Chinese, and Thai. Now, I do not have to worry around here about BBQ and steak, but they vary wildly in quality and are pretty pricey. Now, if you like fried chicken, Dallas has you covered - tons of them. As for seafood, there is nothing like south Louisiana - sorely disappointed in anything trying to mimic Cajun, Creole, or New Orleans fare. My all-time favorite Chinese restaurant resides in Lake Charles, Louisiana of all places. Best Hot and Sour soup I have ever had - and I try them everywhere. Kaybli is the connoisseur of French Onion soup on this forum. Inger - well-done meats; Renfield - liver mush; Pipps - well, nearly everything, as he is our Man About International Town.

Food for me is mostly just fuel…I am by no stretch of the imagination a “foodie”. My tastes are simple…pizza, burgers & most varieties of sandwiches washed down with a Blue Moon (or 2), although I have particularly enjoyed Korean BBQ. Just the mention of liver turns my stomach…or my pancreas.

Little old Alamosa does it quite well. We have some authentic Mexicans living here that have opened restaurants. The one we like best is just a mother and son. Friendly people, good eats (though a limited menu)…

Deep Dish Chicago or New York style?? It was a thin, so more New York style. That's my favorite style of pizza.

It was a thin, so more New York style. That's my favorite style of pizza. I like thin crust as well. What I miss more, rather than style are the one off mom and pop places. Living in the suberbs of California it's mostly chains. One decent place that isn't a chain.Much better in Berkerly or San Francisco.

About the best you can hope for in most of California is Round Table Pizza.
