Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will be out at least one-to-two months and will head to Los Angeles for an appointment with noted sports surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, The Post has learned.
Several Yankees doctors and ElAttrache have viewed Cole’s preliminary film, and while none has detected a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, there’s enough concern about the ligament that ElAttrache has suggested an in-person visit.
Word is that the defending AL Cy Young Award winner will be out for an “extended period,” although for now, the hope and belief is that Cole has a chance to return sometime in May or early June.

Just have the Surgery and get it over with ... We dont need an 80-90 % Cole for the Next 5 years we need 100% for the final 4 years

Great to see Rizzo being Rizzo again! What's the word, Kaybli? Are you keeping The Garden State free from evil and aphids? lol, about to head for a walk just now! I guess the news on Cole could be worse. No tear detected.

Gleyber stolen base...hustles to score. Back to "putting on a show". He drew a nice walk after falling behind 0-2 as well…

In some ways, it's more maddening that they do not know what the problem is, which means more time wasted trying to find the cause of his elbow problems. The more time off, the less of a chance he can be stretched out again in a timely fashion if it is nothing, or if it is structural the longer they linger and turn one wasted season encroaching into two.

Yea thats true. But I think its better this than finding out he needs Tommy John for sure.

I hope Cole is flying out to meet with this surgeon to discuss therapy and ligament strengthen options.

Did the YES broadcast elaborate on this? I wonder if it's inflammation or a strained ligament?

Only if we don't find out he needs Tommy John in the middle of the season, or worse, right before the playoffs. Actually, I had a nagging feeling after Cole's first Cy Young Award last season that he's been so healthy for so long (only two missed starts with the Yankees during the Covid season) for us, something might have to give. One thing is for sure, Cole knows so much about pitching mechanics, that if he does have to rebuild himself after a major surgery, he will ensure it is done the right way.

Meredith only said that if he doesn’t need surgery, he won’t be stretched out for opening day because he’s only made one 39- pitch appearance…
