Volpe takes a sinker inside, then chases a slider off the plate away, he chops it to 3rd, Suarez fields it on the grass, and starts a 5-4-3 DP, nailing Volpe by a half-step, 2 down, nobody on.

Curve for a strike. Another one for strike 2 Change outside, popped foul in back of 3rd, Gurriel playing that way, is able to make a sliding catch in foul ground to end the inning.
Another easy inning for Kelly, just 8 pitches and 19 through 2. Bottom 2, 0-0.

Gurriel made that catch in front of some Yankee fans that weren’t happy to see him get it…

Suarez fouls off a FB, takes a 2nd one up and away, fouls off s slow FB at 94, Takes a change just low, 2-2 FB overthrown high at 96, 3-2 FB down and in, Suarez is late and under, pops to Soto in shortish right, 1 down. Suarez used to murder that pitch.

Alexander takes a FB outside corner for a strike Then a curve down the middle, 0-2 Overthrown FB is high again, 1-2 A better 97 FB still misses high, Rodon wanted it but it wasn't close Cutter misses high, from 0-2 to 3-2.
FB up and in at 97, but not up enough or in enough, belted just over the wall in left, solo HR makes it 1-0 D'backs.

Barnhart takes a FB for a ball, then gets another up in the zone in the middle and lines it to right center for a hit.

I have to say that the D-Backs have a nice roster. When they get Monty ready I think they have a chance to make a deep playoff run again. They also added a good lefty in Eduardo Rodriguez. When everyone is back, their rotation is formidable: Gallen, Kelly, Rodriguez, Montgomery and 2nd year man Brandon Pfaadt. Kelly, Rodriguez and Monty are solid #3 level starters, Gallen is a high level #2 or low level ace, and Pfaadt is potentially a solid #2 man. Their offense is lacking only in power, and could really use a Soto-type hitter to anchor it. Carroll MIGHT develop into that guy but he's not quite there yet. Maybe we could give them Stanton
