Booney thinks Stanton's going to catch fire. boone has no choice but to give, at least to the media, a vote of confidence. while fans have given up and written him off, nobody's rooting harder for him than boone, his teammates and yankee management.
for the record, before getting hurt, he got off to a good start last season and in 2022, again before getting hurt, had a great 1st 2 months. in both cases for whatever reasons, never got it going when he returned.
the alternative isn't gonna pretty so they're gonna give him every chance to succeed. maybe he is done but ballplayers and former players more than anyone, understand the cyclic nature of success and failure in baseball. if he's healthy, they believe he can produce. we'll see ...

I would love to see him get hot because it would help the team and he seems like a decent guy. I can't imagine what's going on with his mind right now. I hope Boone's right.

I think we all want to see it but the problem is he has declined brutally and the streaks only last for a very few games.

I hope Boone's right. yup. as fans all we can do is root for or against. he's still owed something like $108 mil so they will stick w stanton far longer than the so-called fans have patience for. players understand hot & cold, streaks & slumps, something those of us who've never played the game on a high level understand. fans like to take their little polaroids and stick w that image while managers, coaches etc have a much broader view. for now, all we can do is hope until he proves the doubters right.
and right now the alternative is to play grisham and his career .215 BA. maybe cabrera if/when DJ comes back. things can and will change when the martian is ready. and yeah i cringe at every out of the zone swing the guy takes.

I think Qwik nailed it when he said Stanton has to guess alot because his bat speed is down and he can no longer catch up to fastballs. He will still hit some HRs when he guesses right but we can also expect a low BA and a lot of unproductive ABs.

I guess we will see what Boone feels when the lineup is announced. How long does he continue to bat Stanton cleanup?

The reality is we have been waiting for Stanton to get hot for the better part of 3 years now. Look at the stats the decline has been very visible. He lost a lot of weight this year and got more flexible supposedly but his pitch recognition and insistence on swinging at pitches breaking away from the strike zone keeps happening. He may end up hitting maybe 20-25 homers but all the missed opportunities with runners on base and non-contact outs by him will more than offset the 450 foot homers he may hit from time to time. In any case there is no way you bat him 4th or 5th in this lineup. Until DJ comes back I would move Volpe into the leadoff and slot Gleyber either 4th or 5th. If Stanton plays he is either batting 6th or 7th. Depending how Volpe does and with his speed I may even leave him batting first and put DJ somewhere probably 6th when he comes back.

All true...still has the ugliest swing I've ever seen. All upper body with alligator arms.

I think we all want to see it but the problem is he has declined brutally and the streaks only last for a very few games. Bingo! What used to be two week hot streaks now seem to be less than a week long. Since he had one of those mini spurts near the end of spring training, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s cold right now. As far as chasing goes though, he’s swinging at some pitches that look six inches off the plate. It’s hard to generate success when you don’t force the pitchers to throw strikes…
