Nice to see Wells back in the lineup but it's not good for Oswaldo who's been playing well to sit two straight games.

Nice to see Wells back in the lineup but it's not good for Oswaldo who's been playing well to sit two straight games. Agreed...Boone might be trying to get Berti ABs against a weaker team. I'd really like to see Gleyber get untracked. He's had some hard hit balls that have resulted in little, and a few dinkers to make up for them. Also the victim of some Ks on bad calls.

Gleyber is another of our streaky hitters, but if there is a difference this season it's that he's taking a lot of pitches and running up pitch counts. That has been the one benefit of having him bat leadoff, or perhaps it is a function of him batting leadoff.

I've said in a perfect world I'd rather see him in the middle of the order, but there doesn't seem to be a better option at this point. May be my imagination, but it seems his leg kick has been a little more extreme, and there's a lot more movement...at least early in the count.

Deep thought of the day. Even if you spell incorrectly correctly, it’s spelled still incorrectly…There is no way out…

stanton bumped up to cleanup against a LH pitcher. he hits lefties well and is on a bit of a roll so why not.
cabrera sits because there is a lefty though his splits are rather similar. guessing boone wants to get berte going. oswaldo has been one of hitting heros of this young season.
and yeah judge needs to get untracked.
we just saw cortes bounce back and pitch a gem after 2 mediocre starts. no reason not to expect the same from rodon against the lowly marlins.

A.J. Puk for the Marlins tonight. An excellent starting pitcher prospect, he ran into injuries and when he returned in 2022, first the A's, and then the Marlins tried to use his high velocity and other stuff to turn him into a closer without success. He was a good reliever, but not a great one, so the Marlins are putting him back into the rotation this year. So far, it hasn't gone well: 2 starts, 2 losses. 6 innings, 8 hits, 8 runs, 6 earned, 9 BB and 6 K. The only good number on his ledger so far is that he hasn't allowed a HR yet. He carries an ERA of 9 and a WHIP of 2.833 into this start
Repertoire: the move back into the rotation has taken 2 mph of his FB velocity so far. 95.8 as a reliever last year, 93.8 so far this year as a starter. So far, he's used the FB about 60% of the time. He also has slider about 81 that he uses a little over 30% of the time, and a change about 85% that he uses a little less than 10% of the time. He's pitched 9 2/3 innings allowed an unacceptable 12 hits and 7 BB, and has also surrendered 2 HR with just 7 K. He's managed to limit the damage to just 3 earned runs, so he comes in with a deceptive ERA of 2.79. The WHIP is more indicative of his struggles; it's nearly 2 at 1.966.
Current repertoire: FB averaging 96 about 58% of the time; slider at 87 about 23% of the time, Cutter at 92 about 13% of the time, a change at about 85-6 about 3% of the time, and a curve at 82 about 2% of the time.
========================
For the Yanks, Carlos Rodon, still trying to re-establish the elite form he had in 2022 and 2023, when he was top 5 in the Cy Young voting. He's trying to adjust his style to be more like Cole's, that is to sit about 3 mph or so below his top velocity and save the extra mph for times when he needs to make a pitch. He's also add a cutter, curve and change. So far, it's not working very well; he's been mediocre at best: 2 starts, albeit against two good hitting teams, and two no-decisions. The numbers: 2 starts, 2 no-decisions, 9 2/3 innings, an unacceptable 12 H, 5 BB with 2 HR, and just 7 K. He's held the line, allowing just 3 earned runs for a deceptively good 2.79 ERA. His WHIP tells a more accurate tale: 1.966, nearly 2 runners per inning.
Current repertoire: FB about 96 roughly 58% of the time, slider 87 about 23%, cutter at 92 about 13%, change at 85-6 about 3 times a game, curve at 82 about twice a game.
