It’s a breezy 57 degree day here, but we had an unbelievable micro burst about an hour ago that lasted maybe 20 seconds. I thought we might wind up in Oz. I’d guess sixty MPH. I love these kind of events. Recall playing golf in one that lasted a couple minutes once…

Follow me, grasshopper, for I have lived long and know many things. Sometimes I must use my credit card to access them, though… (Thought I’d beat Rizzuto on the draw with that)…🤓

Watched helplessly as a beautiful 30'+ Palo Verde tree in my front yard creaked and swayed, hoping it wouldn't come down on my house. Thankfully it didn't...called a tree removal company the next day. $800 later it was gone. Loved it, gave us front yard shade during the summer heat, but I also like to sleep at night.

most of us have wanted volpe to ultimately bat lead-off. wasn't sure of the timing of it. they pulled the trigger on it. think the kid's got a good head on his shoulders and will handle it well.
also gleyber needed to move down. not really a lead-off hitter though for the most part did a good job there. hasn't really gotten off the ground this season but neither has judge. better days coming for both.
very rare to face 3 lefties in a series but that's what has happened. boone apparently going w a strict platoon. i woulda got ocab into one of the games. hopefully this doesn't mess w his head.
hopefully stroman can keep it going.

We just had a second one, but it wasn’t as strong as the first one… this one? Maybe 35/40 MPH… I just went out to check the oil on my Hummer. Nothing wrong that I know of, but I’m monitoring is because at my last oil change the kid told be there was no oil visible on the stick, so I’m just checking every thousand miles to verify. So far, 3,000 miles and no sign of usage. I switched to synthetic a while back, so change interval is recommended at 6,000. The point of that story is that the car is parked facing east and the wind today is from the west. I have hydraulic shocks to hold the hood. I pulled the stick And while I was reading it the hood slammed shut right next to me. The damned car tried to bite me! … Don’t be over-confident in those damned shocks!…

I had a Mazda RX7 (rotary engine) I was restoring. Had drained the oil, and got called away before refilling. A few days later, forgetting I hadn't refilled, I took it out for a test drive on CO-470. By the time I got to Highlands Ranch...click...seized engine...end of restoration. As for miles between changes...5000 is about right, especially with synthetic.

I don’t know what the motivation could be to yell me the stick was dry, but I have serious doubts that it was. That’s why I’m checking every thousand miles right now. You would think that if it was using oil, there would have been enough usage at 3K miles that I would be able to detect some usage by now, that it would be down a quart or so by now. M I also intend to check after we get back from Pagosa Springs to see if the strain of mountain driving is a factor. I’m not good with mechanics, but I’m a bit of a curious arm chair scientist, so this is an interesting case for me to observe. The guy that owns the Valvoline Station also owns the transmission/mechanic shop where I go. If his oil store employers are money around I’m sure he’d want to know…and I am the kind of idiot that pulls out the calculator and checks his gas mileage every time I fill up. I feel like a change in mileage might be a harbinger of mechanical issues. When I got my transmission rebuilt I saw an increase in mileage of almost 1.5 miles per gallon…

Ack! I ordered a new screen door for the house around a month ago and it’s here! I’m going to run and pick it up…Should be back in time… I’m sitting here lounging after sleeping in do due last nights sleep struggles and now everything goes into emergency mode… oh well. Excited about the door with warm weather coming. Oddly it’s a screen security door… I’m back🤓. I quickly measured the car and the door won’t fit, so I called my installers and they’ll be picking it up, and scheduling the install soon. I called the company I got the door from and paid the $892.47 for the door, so… no driving required… That must be more than just a screen door.

Ryan Weathers starts for the Marlins. He was the 7th pick of the 1st round in the Rule 4 Draft in 2018, and was regarded as an excellent pitching prospect. He was the #94 prospect in MLB Pipeline's top 100 before the 2019 season, and the #84 prospect in Baseball America's top 100 before the 2021 season. He pitched in the majors parts of the last 3 seasons without much success. Before this season, in 46 major league games and 31 starts, he 5-15 with a 5.88 ERA. In 156 innings, he had allowed 175 hits, 32 HR, and 63 BB, while striking out just 118 hiters. His WHIP before this season was 1.525.
This is Weathers' 3rd start of the season; he's 0-1 with a no-decision. In 9 innings, he's allowed 10 hits 1 HR and 5 BB, but has struck out 11; his ERA is 4.00, but his WHIP is still high at 1.667. Tonight we be the first game he's ever pitched against the Yankees.
He's made a small change to his repertoire for this season, throwing his FB 9% less, his slider 5% more and his change 4% more. In his first two starts, his FB is 1-2 mph harder than in his first three years. It averages 96 so far this year; he's thrown it 48% of the time. The slider averages 82, and he's thrown it 25% of the time. The change is 86-7, and he's thrown it 27% of the time, but I think I read somewhere he threw a lot more changeups in his more successful 2nd start, so we might see the change more than that.
============================= Marcus Stroman is making his 3rd start of the season. He's 1-0 with a no-decision and has thrown 6 shutout innings against both the Astros and the Blue Jays. In 12 innings so far this season, he's allowed just 7 hits, 0 HR (obviously), 3 BB with 10 K. He's been everything the Yankees could have wanted in 2 starts.
Thjs will be the 7th start against the Marlins of his career. In the previous 6, he's 1-0 with 5 no-decisions. He's thrown 30 innings, allowing 27 hits, 3 HR and 6 BB while striking out 29. His ERA against them is 3.00, and the WHIP is 1.100. The Marlins' quadruple slash line against Stroman is .250/.293/.352//645.
As for his repertoire, very early in the season (possibly due to the influence of pitching coach Matt Blake, who likes all his starters to throw cutters), Stroman is throwing the cutter a lot more, about 30% of the time, whereas in the last 3 seasons, he used it about 11-12% of the time.
Stroman's repertoire so far this season: FB velo is down 1-2 mph so far, averaging 90. He's using it 43% of the time. The cutter is 87, and he's using is a little over 30% of the time. His other two pitches: slider at 83-4 used about 18% of the time, and the change at 83 used about 9% of the time.

Despite the fact that he's never pitched against the Yankees before, several hitting in the lineup have faced Weathers. (All ex-National Leaguers, as you'd expect)
Soto is 3 for 5 vs. him with a solo HR and a K Rizzo is 4 for 5 against him Berti is 2-2 against him.
None of the other hitters in the lineup have faced Weathers.
==================
Marlins' hitters vs. Stroman:
Arraez is 1-2 with a BB Bell is 2-16, with 1 RBI, 1 SB, 2 BB and 5 K Burger is 1-5 with a solo HR Chisholm is 4-12 with a RBI and 4 K Sanchez is 1-5 with 2 BB and 2 K Anderson is 5-19 with a HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB, 1 BB and 7 K de la Cruz is 1-9 with a SB, a CS and 3 K Gordon is 1-2 with 1 RBI Fortes is 2-6 with a HR, 2 RBI and a SB.

Volpe leading off! I think it might be a tad bit early for this. I hope he doesn't change his approach or feel the pressure. I think it’s fine. Volpe looks uber confident right now… He grew up through last season and found out who he wants to be as a player. The number .209 wasn’t appealing to him… He'll be fine as long as he doesn't change his approach because he's batting leadoff.
