How did I miss that.  The four pitches went by so fast...not to worry, in the game thread, we all pick each other up. I get like Scooter at times, I have the game on, but I'm not paying attention because I'm doing something else. |

Shenton is a 26 year old 1st baseman who had an indifferent minor league career, until last season, when he exploded at AA and AAA for 45 doubles, 29 HR and .304 BAVG. He came to the Rays in the same trade as J.T. Chargios for Diego Castillo in 2021.
Gil whiffs him on 3 pitches, the last one a 96 FB near middle that Shenton foul tipped into the mitt, 1 down.

Gil gets ahead of Rosario 0-2, then gets him to chase a change inside, he grounds it to Cabrera, who has to hurry throw out Rosario hustling down the line. 2 down.

Gil gets ahead of Mead, 0-2, then misses high with a FB.
He foul tips a change into the mitt for the K, but Mead ticked Trevino's mitt for catcher's interference, robbing Gil of a K and more importantly, an easy 1-2-3 inning with just 10 pitches

Rortvedt falls behind 1-2, with Mead stealing 2nd on the 3rd pitch, then chases a FB at the top in the middle for a K, inning over.
That was Gil's best FB so far today, 97.5 mph
14 pitches for Gil in the 2nd, 38 through 2.
Bottom 2, 1-0 Yanks.
Verdugo, Trevino and Cabrera for the Yanks in the 2nd.

Verdugo takes a ball.
Curve misses inside called a strike anyway.
Cutter well out of the zone up and in, Verdugo chases and it hits the bat way up toward the handle, squibs toward 3rd, and Paredes can't do anything but eat it for an infield single. Man on 1st, nobody out for Trevino.
