Quickly ahead on two sinkers in the zone above the waist. Slider well outside, 1-2 Schuemann has never faced Holmes. Slider misses 2-3 inches outside near the bottom, but Tumpane gives the A's a last "F-U-for-arguing-my-zone-all-night". Holmes gets another >| he didn't earn, but I take the $$$ and run away as fast as I can. Yanks win, 4-3 to even the series and get back to 8 over at 16-8. Holmes may not have earned the >| but I liked the way he pitched. Aggressive early in the count getting ahead and then seeing if hitters would chase. First punchout was borderline but not egregious. I was watching A's telecast as Yanks was blacked out in Bay Area and it looked like it may have clipped the very top of K Zone. The second was a bad call no doubt but being ahead in the count don't mind seeing if he can get a hitter to chase especially considering the amount of 2 strike basehits we have given up lately with cookies. Umps are seemingly so bad this year it's not a bad idea to expand the zone with 2 strikes to either get the hitter to chase or benefit from a bad call which has become common place. Didn't see any discussion on Wells although I might have missed it. I've never seen a catcher set up so far off the plate before. A's announcers commented on it and Dallas Braden seemed to like it. Several times Stroman hit the glove and it was an easy take and ball call. I'm having a difficult time trying to understand what benefit this might have other than for a pitch that moves that much back to the corner. But he seemed to setup the same way for pitches that had little or no movement. What do you think? Wells setting up so far outside, makes absolutely no sense to me. I think it hurts Stroman or anyone else pitching. Unless Stroman thinks it helps him with a pitch tailing in??? I am not a fan

Not certain of the reason for intentionally setting up outside the strike zone, unless it is a pitcher's preference. I would prefer throwing a breaking pitch by using the batter's shoulder or hip or the catcher's shoulder as a reference for the point of the break. Some want to focus on the glove only and where they want the pitch to finish.

Don't for the 9th inning ump as POG. 2 Ks were called on balls.
