Back leg slider taken, 1-1 Cutter almost down the middle (1), 1-2 Can't check on a back leg knuckle curve well out of the zone for the K. Inning over.
Bottom 1, 0-0. A mere 27 pitches in the 1st for Schmidt.

Schmidt was robbed of 2 strikes in that inning, but it doesn't forgive his nibbling. These are the Oakland freaking A's. Make them prove they can hit your stuff.

The team's best leadoff hitter would be Soto The team's best #2 hitter would be Soto The team's best #3 hitter would also be Soto The really don't have anyone else to leadoff unless Volpe breaks out of this funk he's in. You could make the argument to hit Verdugo leadoff, but that puts 2 leftys in a row at the top of the lineup. If they want to avoid that, they can switch Judge and Soto, but then Stanton would have to bat 4th to avoid two lefties in a row with Soto and Rizzo.

When you have 8 guys in the lineup who aren't hitting, it really doesn't matter how you jumble them. You could literally pull names out of a hat right now.

I don't think you can get too comfortable at the dish when your facing Boyle.

Volpe takes a FB for a strike, then two pitches inside, 2-1. Slider winds up just outside, Volpe pulls it foul You shouldn't be trying to pull that pitch, Anthony. 2-2 FB down the middle, fouled off. Fb outside spoiled, should've been ball 4 Slider low in the zone in the middle, fouled. Volpe chases a terrible slider way way out of the zone, low/away. Stantonesque. K, 1 down.

An interesting Eric Plunk note. He was traded between the A's and Yankees twice, both times Rickey Henderson went the opposite way in trade.
December 5, 1984: Traded by the New York Yankees with Tim Birtsas, Jay Howell, Stan Javier and José Rijo to the Oakland Athletics for Bert Bradley, Rickey Henderson and cash.
June 21, 1989: Traded by the Oakland Athletics with Greg Cadaret and Luis Polonia to the New York Yankees for Rickey Henderson.

Fb up high, Soto ducks a bit, but it wasn't near him FB inside corner, pulled foul. Curve low, 2-1 Slider down and in, 3-1 FB inside makes Soto jackknife a bit, ball 4.

Soto on 1st, 1 out...Judge...gets a FB down the middle and misses under foul tips it into the mitt. Fb low, then chases a FB outside, 1-2. FB thigh high, outside corner, Judge guesses slider by count and locations takes it for the ꓘ, 2 down.

And the balk call turns a strikeout into a 2 run HR.
