Gleyber needs a night off. Hoping for a big offense night but last night was frustrating watching. The bench is too weak to bench these guys.

One more thing about tonight's matchup: I haven't found any good way to check this, but tonight's matchup almost certainly is tied for major league record for the fewest letters in the last names of the two starting pitchers, with 6. I believe I saw this on Twitter yesterday. Did they mention in that tweet any past game in which the two starters had a combined 6 letters in their last names?

Hopefully tonight is the night for Torres and Wells to go deep. Each have to get that first one of the season.

In early action tonight, A's and O's are 1-1 top 4th in Baltimore, Stripling vs. Burnes. Cubs lead the Red Sox 2-0 bottom 3 at Fenway, Imanaga vs. Crawford in thatone. Rays-White Sox is 0-0 top 2nd in Chicago, Eflin vs. Flexen there. Dodgers are pummeling Chris Bassitt and the Jays 7-0, top 3rd in Torono. Bassitt has given up 9 hits, 2 BB and 2 HR so far, and the Dodgers have stolen 3 bases as well.

They may have pitched against each other, but Ni never started a game in the majors. Double-checking at Baseball Reference... Lee pitched in 4 games against the Tigers in 2009 and 2010, the two years Ni was with Detroit, but Ni didn't appear in any of the 4.

Rangers kill off the PP to start the 2nd pd, though Karlsen hit the post with a shot with 10 seconds left in the man advantage.
Rea throwing his final warmups. Volpe heading toward the batter's box.

Volpe steps in...Game underway Volpe gets a FB 94 up and in but in the zone, fouled off.

Fouls off another sinker in, 0-2 Beats him clean with a FB just above the zone, inner half, swung on and missed, K. 1 down. Not a great start, a 3 pitch K, with Rea challenging Volpe with his average FB all 3 pitches.
