O's went just 0-3 with RISP, the 3 batters that Hamilton and Holmes got in the 8th after Hamilton walked the leadoff man and hit the 2nd batter.

Holmes was absolutely filthy! So was Gil. He grew a foot today… his only walk led off the 7th… he came in walking 6.9 per 9… thinking when cole ultimately comes back, that you have to keep gil in the rotation. means schmidt goes to the pen. still a ways to go as cole has not thrown off a mound and may not come off the IL when 60 days are up.

Holmes was absolutely filthy! Holmes is getting better as the season moves along. He was walking the tightrope the first couple of weeks of April, but not anymore. agree right now looking like a top closer.

Who needs Corbin Burnes? Okay, we only had four hits and two runs, but pitching continues to keep us in these game. When will our bats wake up?

The series finale is tomorrow afternoon at 1:05, thankfully back on YES. Carlos Rodon for the Yanks, who hope to see the same Rodon they saw in his last start against the Brewers on Saturday, and the O's might bring Kyle Bradish off the IL for his first start of the season. He had a tough start against the Yankees in May, but shut them down cold for 6 innings in his 2nd start against them last year in early July. Whatever happens, Yanks will leave Baltimore no worse then 1 game out of 1st and no lower than 2nd when they head home for the weekend.
I will be with you for the start of the game tomorrow, but I might not be here for the finish, I have an eye doctor appointment at 3:45 that I stupidly made back in early March without checking the Yanks' schedule.

Being a little snarky with my reply there. Stanton was the reigning MVP when he came to the Yanks, but hasn't played like one since. Had some good years, and some good playoff series, but those days are gone now. As for Mickey, my dad made sure I saw him play in person in his final season, when his glory days were long gone, too. Very cool Qwik. I love stuff like that. My father took us to watch Ted Williams in a game in Baltimore in the late 50s and impressed on me that we were seeing an all-time great hitter and that I would always be able to say I saw him in person. So here I am saying it. Just catching up to replies... Very cool you saw Williams. My father loved Joe D, but always said that Williams was the greatest hitter he ever saw.

Not sure, Gil threw only 4 innings last year and 25 in 2022. Schmidt is built to last comparatively. Nothing wrong with Gil's work as a starter so far though. Schmidt does seem to have issues going through the lineup 3+ times, but even so he's been very solid in 2024. Gil would actually be a perfect follower to Schmidt, he could throw 2-3+ innings in close games instead of the current cast of characters. Of those two, I also think Gil would get the bigger bump in effectiveness out of the pen. He'd probably be topping 100 MPH pretty often. Schmidt is not a power pitcher that would really benefit from letting it loose for short stints like Gil could.

Never said hello to you this evening, nw. So... hello to you this evening. Hello to you this evening. Been a good evening so far. Called probably my best plate game of the year and now the Yanks are winning. Good to hear you're still out there doing your thing.

Thanks for starting the game thread, qwik! Congrats on your first one! Hopefully you will bring us some luck! Lucky enough, barely, on both Cabrera's HR and the Yanks outstanding pitching. I'll do it again when I have to, but prefer others to start the threads.

He only saw Babe later in his career, and was a big fan of Gehrig too (even though he was a Philadelphia Athletics fan.) Musial was his all-around favorite, and I did get to see Stan play many times. But anybody who saw Williams play puts him in almost a separate category from anyone else as a hitter.

Ofcourse, I have to share my claim to fame (again). Being at Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS with the Boone HR!
