This is more of what Judge and Rizzo are capable of doing - those numbers are starting to climb. Rizzo now with 6 homers and 20 RBI. I wonder if Rizzo's back is feeling better? He's driving the ball more now and his defensive issues at first have disappeared.

Splitter low, 1-0 on Cabrera Tries to take a page from Verdugo, squares well, but jabs at the pitch, bunts it foul Golfs a splitter low in the zone, the sinking fliner to right, but carpenter makes the sliding catch, 1 down As a quick guess: Matt Nokes for the Name that Yankee? Or was he gone by 1994? Fantastic Qwik! That's it!

Soto takes a curve above middle for a strike, then gets a Fb up in the zone, outer half, and hits a sky high pop behind the mound, McKinstry comes in from short, dances a bit, but catches easily, inning over. Exit velo on that pop was 100.5 but the launch angle was 71ยบ, so you can say he got under it.
Good bounceback for Mize in the 4th, 12 pitches, and 69 through 4.
Top 5, 5-3 Yanks. McKinstry, Kelly and back to the top for Greene.

Slider outside, 1-0 Cutter inside middle fouled, 1-1 Curve on the backdoor at the knees, 1-2 Curve down and in fouled off Cutter up and away, ball 2 Curve hangs waist high near the corner inside, he's jammed but inside outs a flare over short for a soft single to lead off the 5th.

I liked Nokes a lot because he was the kind of hitter the Yanks needed to pick up at the time, lefty pull hitter with power, but he couldn't really catch, and Mike Stanley improved the defense and receiving by a lot.

Kelly fouls off a cutter near middle, and then a slider at the top, then gets jammed by the curve in, grounds it right to Volpe, who starts an easy 6-4-3 DP, 2 down.

Cutter up and in for a strike Slider hangs outside, 1-1 Cutter up and in, swung under, 1-2 Cutter hangs up and away, 2-2 And he yanks a cutter way inside, hits Greene under his right armpit, man on 1st, 2 down. Schmidt bein' Schmidt, gets the big DP, 1 pitch away from getting out of the inning with no damage, but has to miss so badly trying to tie up Greene and prevent another HR, he hits him. It's kinda sad, really. So much stuff, so little command of it.

Schmidt has looked different every inning. Command not there, but he's hanging in.

Serviceable performance by Schmidt. He's at 91 pitches and has struggled with command all day. Doubtful that he comes out for the sixth.

Cutter outside, 1-0 to Canha. Canha dangerous here. Hanging slider starts at him so he takes it as it drops on the inner half waist high Slider well outside, 2-1 Cutter pulled outside at the top, 3-1 Slider on the outside corner, Canha pulls it to Cabrera for the 5-4 force, inning over. Schmidt cruises for 3, then struggles for 2. 19 pitches in the 5th, and 91 through 5, so he might be done for today. Yanks used 3 relievers yesterday, but with a possible rainout tomorrow, might get Weaver for 2, Ferguson for 1 and Holmes for 1 in this spot.
Bottom 5, 5-3 Yanks. Judge, Verdugo and Stanton for the Yanks.

Curve almost middle middle, but Judge starts late and pops it foul and out of play down the right side. Fb low/away, 1-1 Bounces the splitter, 2-1 Judge guesses wrong, starts on the FB up in the zone, then checks for some reason called strike 2. I think he was guessing offspeed. Then he gets a waist high slider on the outer 3rd, not even outside, and he's early and under, misses it for the K, 1 down.
