Spencer Arrighetti goes for the Astros. Their 6th round draft choice in 2018. He's worked his way up the Astros chain slowly, never pitching particularly well at any level. But with 2 decent games at AAA, and with the Astros' rotation being hit with multiple injuries, they called him up on April 10th. He's pitched very poorly so far. but finally threw a solid came in his last start, a no-decision vs. Cleveland, 2 runs in 5 2/3 innings. In his 4 starts in the majors, he's 0-3 with an ERA of 8.27. He's pitched 16 1/3 innings, allowed 22 hits, 15 runs, all earned (but 7 of them came in his 1st start, a 3-inning knockout against the Royals), 1 HR, 10 BB with 21 K's. His WHIP is almost 2.000 so far. He's never faced the Yankees before tonight.
Repertoire: Arrighetti is another 5-pitch "kitchen sink" righty starter. In a very small MLB sample, he's thrown a FB that averages 94 about 46% of the, a cutter at 88 about 22% of the time, a curve at 78 about 15% of the time, a slider at 81 about 13% of the time and a change about 86 that he throws about once every other inning.

The Yanks send Carlos Rodon out to oppose Arrighetti. His season has been up and down. He got hit hard his last start against the O's in Camden Yards, 3 solo HR's, 8 hits, 7 runs in just 4 1/3 innings. That poor start came after his best two games of the season, so who knows what he'll have up his left sleeve tonight. This start is his 8th this season. So far, he's 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA. In 36 2/3 innings, he's allowed 33 hits, 16 runs, 15 earned, 6 HR, 14 BB and struck out 36. His WHIP is a mediocre 1.282 so far.
Tonight's game is his 11th career start against the Astros. He has a very good record against them, almost all of it compiled which they've been to 7 straight ALCS and beyond. He's 3-0 with a 2.47 ERA. In 58 1/3 innings, he's allowed 47 hits, 19 runs, 16 earned, 7 HR, 18 BB and struck out 57. His WHIP against Houston is an excellent 1.114. That's in the regular season. In the post-season he's had two appearances against them, both bad. He gave up 2 runs on a hit and 2 BB without getting an out against the Astros in game 3 of the 2020 Wild Card game, which the Astros won 6-4. The next season, he was able to go just 2 2/3 innings against them, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, both earned, walking 2 and striking out 3 in game 4 of the Division Series. The White Sox were down 2 games to 1, so they pulled Rodon out early. It didn't help; Kopech came out of the pen and gave up 3 more and the game and the series were over right there.
Rodon pitched twice against the Astros last year. The first one was not good: 5 runs in 2 2/3 innings. The Yanks got him off the hook by scoring 4 in the 4th to tie that game after he left, but went on to lose anyway, 9-7. The 2nd start at the Stadium went much better, 2 runs in 5 innings, with just 3 hits a BB and 4 K's plus 1 HR. Rodon got the 2nd of just 3 wins last year that day as the Yanks won 6-2.

As you might expect against a rookie with just 4 major league starts, none of the Yanks have ever batted vs. Arrighetti, at least not in the major leagues.
Astros lineup vs. Rodon (not counting the postseason)
Altuve is 7-26 with 1 double, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 6 K and 1 GIDP
Tucker is 2-8 with 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 BB and 3 K
Alvarez is 3-12 with 1 HR, 2 RBI, 4 K and 1 HBP
Bregman is 3-11 with 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 BB and 1 K
Pena is 2-4 with 1 double and 1 BB
Singleton has never faced Rodon
Diaz is 1-4
Dubon is 0-2
Meyers is 1-4, a 3 run HR and a BB.
On the bench, Caratini is 1-4 with a GIDP

Yesterday, the Yanks blasted the Astros 10-3, while the Phillies blasted the Jays 10-1, the Nats surprised the O's 3-0, the Rays took their 2nd straight from the White Sox 5-1 and the Braves got two runs in the 8th to slip past the Red Sox, 4-2 in Atlanta.
Earlier today, the Jays got some revenge, beating the Phils 5-3 behind Chris Bassitt.
The O's 2nd game in Washing ton is underway, Kyle Bradish vs. rookie Mitchell Parker. Top 2, 0-0
So is the Rays 3rd game at home vs. the White Sox. Chris Flexen for the ChiSox, Aaron Civale for the Rays. Bottom 1, 0-0
The Red Sox 2nd game in Atlanta starts at 7:20, Sox' current ace Nick Pivetta, 1-1 0.82 ERA will face Sox' old ace Chris Sale, 4-1 3.44 ERA.
With the Jays win today, the O's are still percentage points ahead of the Yanks, both teams at 11 over and tied for first. Boston is in 3rd, 4 1/2 games behind both. The Rays have won 5 in a row, and are back over .500, just 5 games behind the Yanks and O's. The Jays have fallen into 5th, 3 games under and 7 behind the leaders.
