The Cubs just got our old pal David Phelps from the Blue Jays for a no-name minor leaguer. The fire sale continues in Toronto. But I don't see much of anything left among pitchers that could help the Yankees. Ken Giles would normally be a consideration, but he's been battling elbow problems for over a month and would be a serious risk. I don’t understand what the Blue Jays are doing. Agree. I think they got fleeced in the Stroman trade, and it's hard to get fleeced by the Mets. They have some nice young talent, but they seem to be making trades for the sake of making trades.

They have some nice young talent, but they seem to be making trades for the sake of making trades. It also may well be that after the Urshela deal they expect a clear overpay from the Yanks or other teams they consider competitors and a different price from other teams. Which is a dumb way to manage your business but whatever. That’s why the Jays have been bad for so long.

It is interesting how few pitchers that would even qualify as number 2 starters are available. Kluber maybe but i doubt Cashman will give the Indians what they would demand. My hope(hope is probably not a good strategy) is that Severino comes back and can be a reasonable facsimile of a number 1. Betances should help and maybe German will be consistently good. Maybe Tanaka will be good again. I just don't have much faith in the ability of the rest of the staff to shut down the teams we will face in the playoffs. I believe that the issue is not that there are few #2 starters available, but that we need to redefine what a #2 is....Take a look at Tracy what’s his name that we’re facing tonight <I just made him pitch a 2-hit shutout against us tonight>. There’s actually kid with a 6.10 ERA that’s holding his own as the #5 on the Diamondbacks. The numbers don’t translate the way they did a couple of years ago. A #2 now can be an ERA over 4.00...

“What they were asking it is not even worth a second conversation,” one executive tells Joel Sherman of the New York Post with regard to Syndergaard discussions with the Mets. “I’m not even sure it was worth the first. … [T]he Mets are not in the mode of meeting you in the middle of your offer and their ask, it is their ask or nothing.”

The D-Backs announcing crew only showed a brief interview with Ray about the rumor. No confirmation...

I think its unlikely we will trade anyone at this point. I like the idea of trading Wade for some more days off or the popcorn girl but I don't expect either to materialize
