Yanks come home tomorrow evening to start a 3-game series against the woeful White Sox. The Yanks main task will be to not play down to the level of their opponent. The White Sox still have the worst record in the AL at 14-30, but have been legitimately hot lately, winning 8 of their last 12.
1st game is 7:07 on YES: Nestor Cortes vs. Mike Cleavinger, making his 3rs start for the White Sox since his late signing in early April 2nd game is 1:07 on YES: Luis Gil against ex-Royal Brad Keller, who's making his 2nd start of the season. 3rd game is the usual slightly delayed Sunday afternoon game at 1:37 on YES: Carlos Rodon vs. Chris Flexen, who's 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA in 7 starts.
OK, going to make a last check of my notifications now.

OK, notifications checks, so it's time for me to get going.
Enjoy the afterglow of a sweep against a team coming in white-hot, and sweeping them in their park, even if it is the Twins and their cursed luck vs. the Yanks. My favorite kind of win, great pitching, enough offense, never really in doubt, and over quickly, just 2 hours, 15 minutes for this one.
See you all back here tomorrow evening for the 1st game of the White Sox series at the Stadium at about 7 or so. Good afternoon to all of you. Bye!
Let's go, Rangers!! No cardiac event game 7, please.

A thought I had as I was watching this game is how pundits and fans like to box players in. This guy's ceiling is ........., he's a backend guy or a middle reliever. I love it when a kid proves them wrong. I'm not suggesting Schmidt has cemented himself as a top of the rotation arm but I'm also no longer placing any restrictions on him. The kid seems to work hard and takes coaching. Keep it going kid!

I was thinking this was an evening game for some reason. Nice surprise checking scores and seeing a 5-0 Yankees win. Sweep! Schmiddy is red hot. White Sox up next, they're playing better ball lately after an absolutely dreadful 6-26 start. Side note- Trent Grisham is essentially an automatic out. Wouldn't mind not having to see him anymore other than as a late inning defensive replacement if deemed necessary. He is awful at the plate. He's a sub-Mendoza level hitter who strikes out a ton. Has a decent walk-rate, but that doesn't make up for his inability to make contact.

I think Padres required Yanks to take Grisham in order to make the Soto deal. He was bad offensively for the Padres when he essentially got regular playing time...understandable he's even worse off the bench. Judge has obviously handled CF very well, so I don't see the need to put Grisham in as a late-inning defensive replacement, but they can put him out there when they want to give Judge a rest at DH. The decision will need to be made when they decide to bring Dominguez up, especially considering how well Verdugo has handled LF.

It's been a while since the Yankees pitched this well in a three game series.

Splitter low away, 1-1 Splitter low 2-1 FB at the top swung under, 2-2 FB up and in, hit to deep left, it clears the low fence, but a fan reaches over the railing and backhands the HR ball with his glove. Apparently that's still a HR in this park, so the Yanks lead 1-0!! Possibly the most impressive home run by Volpe in his young career. That pitch was inside, and Volpe brought in his hands and barreled it over the left field fence. That is more pop than I thought Volpe had or has demonstrated to this point. Bravo!

Gleyber has finally awaken at the plate. Man, this is not your Tom Kelly Twins' defense.

And I though Schmidt was done after 7. This is the new Schmidt on display. It was a masterful performance in my opinion, with Schmidt throwing balls that looked like strikes and strikes that looked like balls. Never really in trouble the entire game, and he had two baserunners that should have been outs - one self-imposed on a bad throw to first and the Berti boot. Essentially, he could have been knocking on the door of a shutout without the extra batters. This was his best performance, and it is not close.

Never even saw the score until after this one was over. When I saw that Clarke had gone 8 SHO innings, I was stoked… 🤓

Throw over. Sweeper down the middle taken, because Berti was running and steals 2nd without a throw 2nd and 3rd, two down for Grisham, who gets another slider near middle but misses, fouling it off Rusty misses a FB above the waist, outside corner at 95 for the K, inning over. Yanks get one but can't capitalize for more, lead 4-0, going bottom 6. Top of the order gets their 3rd look at Schmidt: Julien, Larnach and Correa. Rusty? “Rusty Gate, a.k.a. Trent Grisham
